A slow and tedious process...Kadiak.

I thought it would be easy; just rip off the leather covering on the riser.  Not!  I received a Saxon Kadiak...beautiful recurve...and wanted to bare the handle riser.  I found Randy glues the leather on with something that sticks like
p--p to a wool blanket.  I'm in the process of sanding the little leather remnants off this week.   Sloooooow.   I'll post a few photos here to show the final result and some of the process.

I'm taking this slow and steady.  I'm not the best finish person in the country 8^).   I have it to where I need to begin the final sanding process.  Dang that stuff was horrible to get off of that riser.

George, I have one of Randy's Kadiaks and I prefer it without the leather also-looks like you did a good job removing the adhesive. When I had mine built he just included the formed leather in case I decided to use it. I haven't put it on. BTW, this is the fastest bow I own-if that matters.                        Grant

Grant....it is a very fast shooting bow.  I owned another one prior to this...a 60" one.  This is 62" and a very smooth operator 8^).  It's 57# at my draw, so I'm working into it.  Since I've retired I'm shooting more and it doesn't seem too terribly strong for me.  I've also lost about 23 pounds so who says retirement makes you fat 8^).

George, congrats on your retirement.  I am working out everyday trying lose some weight myself, as well as getting ready for elk in CO.

I really like that style of bow.  I almost ordered one from Randy last year, but had a bad experience.  I may have to check into again.

Think about it Dan.  They are incredibly smooth on the draw, just like their namesake the 59' Kodiak.  

Now that I've shot it with the leather off, I may rewrap it with a no-glue wrap.  It shoots well either way, but I think I would like that pivot just a little more ample.

George I know it's a little late now and sorry about that.But maybe next time you got one of then stubern glued leather grips.After wripping the leather off I like to use a fine cabinet scraper to remove that old glue.It only take a few minutes with the scraper and then a final sanding before new finish.Works pretty good..But your right I think that barge cement is cement when it cures...Hey here is a pic of a Kadiak Grant sent me for Christmas last year...it's 62" also .It was 65 + #'s @ 29" draw but now is a crisp shooting hard hitting 55#@28"....I also did a little custom work on the arrow rest shelf and grip. Kind of more along the lines of one of Freds personal shooters sort-of....But those are great shooting bows right there...bowdoc

I have  a 60" 55# Kadiak, when I took the leather grip off,  it took the thin finish with it in some spots, I just put a little Tru Oil on the bare spots and started shooting. I don't shoot it much, the riser cracked on the coin side after the bow was a month old. Randy said the crack didn't hurt the functional integrity of the bow and sent it back to me. I have always been leary of it since then.
