Hey all,

Happy to report that I had my first miss of the year today.
While I would have been happier with a critter stick, it was good just to get a shot.

Went out back to do a little target shooting when I looked int my neighbor's yard and spotted a pretty fat looking groundhog. Well he spotted me too and tucked himself back into his hole under my neighbor's shed promptly.

I gave him about 10 minutes and he came poking his noggin back out to get some sun. Gave him a few more minutes to come out a little more, then he decided that it was time for a nap and started to lay down.

"Now or never" I thought, came to full draw, everything was looking good, release...
Clean miss.

Now to the reson I was happy with it.
As I went to retrieve my arrow I noticed that I was in fact all lined up, positive anchor, good release, and my arrow was resting just past what would have been a great head shot. I was pondering how I could have missed when my son, who was standing in the rear doorway to my garage and had been watching everything as it transpired says to me in a low voice, "Woulda tagged him if he didn't jump your string."

Great, now I've got noise on my bow too.

Oh well, groundhogs are just coming around and I have a whole spring and summer to get after 'em.

Take care and Happy Easter all.

Cool story. At least you know he's still there and will have another day to shoot him.

I've been waiting for ground hogs since deer season ended (because I've never hunted turkey). I saw a ground hog about two weeks ago when the temp hit 70, but I think that sighting was a fluke due to the temp. When I start seeing hogs more consistently, I'll go after them.

Good luck!

Ok, gonna give it another try tonight. Maybe I need to make a groundhog decoy... that's scary just thinking about it.
