to use with fletch-lac clear? Fletch-lac paint has become pretty expensive since I last bought it.   :readit:  Still have a qt of clear to use up. Also, will regular thinner work with Fletch-lac clear?

Thanks.

I think that a acrylic enamel would work ok under the FL clear. I would not try a lacquer paint. Hap

I quit using Bohning stuff when it became hard to get around here. I dip my wood and aluminum shafts in Bullseye 123 from X-mart.
Is it too late to be what I could have been?

I make a pencil line for reference where I want the crown to start, then use acrylic artist's paint like a wipe on stain. Then dip once in clear finish (I use Ace polycrylic) use the cresting to cover the transition from crown to fore shaft and dip again.

I would not use a regular thinner with the Bohning. Hap

Thanks for the replies.

I generally just use a different color stain for a crown but wanted to make another set with a white dip for a change.

Guess I'll give in to Bohning  one more time for the thinner at least.

I recommend that you  not use regular thinner with Bohning paints.

I like arrows crown dipped in bright colors but the Bohning stuff is getting too $$$$$.    On my woodies I measure down 8 inches from the nock and place masking tape around the arrow.   I then brush on a coat of KILZ primer.   Let that dry for a day then spray paint on my crown.   I use safety orange, safety green, white or any colot I have in the shop.
You may think that would not look good, but try it on a arrow you will be suprised.

After the spray paint is nearly dry I pull off the masking tape.   after that I crest at the point where the spray paint meets the wood stain.   After that is complete I then dip the entire arrow in a water based clear coat that I buy from a local hardware store.

After the first coat I steel wool and dip again.

Duco-Cement bonds well with the clear coat I use.

You can't put acrylic under fletch-lac. It's a laquer paint, hence the name. You put FL over acrylic and it'll blister up bigtime. You can however put acrylic over laquer with no problem. The best thing about using laquer is it'll dry faster than acrylic. And you definately can't use laquer thinner in acrylic paint it'll turn to gobbly-gook as soon as you start to stir it.
