cresting paint

What is the best gold paint for cresting? I always worry about gold tarnishing and want to avoid it on my first handmade arrows. Thanks.

For all my cresting I went to the local hobby shop and bought a basic set of Testors model paints. It came with all the basic colors , some thinner and a jar of silver and gold. I have used the gold and it comes out beautiful and seems to have not tarnished.

Yep, I use Testor's for all my cresting. Then spray a couple coats of Polycrylic over it to protect from scratching.

I've also used the Testor's paints for years and works well. And spray a clear coat over it.

Testor's here as well! I didn't use a spray for a clear coat, I brushed it on, next time I'll be using a spray!!!!

Brian I use Testors also and then put the arrow back into the crester when dry and brush 2 coats of water based poly over the crest.
I have some cresting paint from Whispering Wind but I have not experimented with it yet.

Testors is the best for metallic paint of any kind. I love the bronze. If you're going to dip your arrows in polyurethane (oil based), I'll echo the advise of polyacrylic (water based) over just the cresting. Metallic colors bleed like crazy!

Bohning product work for me, I messed around with other types including some mentioned,but never was satisfied with the results.

I use and like the cresting paint from Whispering Winds. The gold and silver are great. The consistancy is good and I can dip in Spar Urethane when done.

I like snag use the cresting paint from Whispering Winds. Have had great luck with all colors including the silver and gold. I have found it will work with many different finishes without problems.

I also use Testor's and wipe on a coat or 2 of Polycrylic once it's dry.

I use Whispering Winds too. Gold and silver are very good. dino
