Will be building a Fiberglass Laminated bow this summer and have a question on what to look for in riser wood. Do I need flat sawn or quarter sawn block? Or does it really depend on the type of wood I use?
Am hoping to do a footed riser with Cocobolo most likely being one of the woods?
Any other suggestions on what to look for in wood for the riser?

Crooked Stic

F irst of all choose wood that is check free. I try to get flat sawen and run the edge grain in the front and back and tne flat on the sides for looks and strength. If you are going to foot you will have added strength. Be sure all the pieces fit up good before glue up and the surfaces are ruffed up for good adhesion. Score them with a hacksaw blade and clamp them tight.
