When tuning carbons how do you install the inserts when you will likely have to cut some material off the end of the arrow? Is there a way to install them so that they are easily removed, but won't get stuck in the target?

Is there any problem trimming the arrow from the nock end? Thanks,

Jeff

I just cut the back on the arrow on the one I am tuneing with.

As long as you are not shooting a tapered arrow like an A/C/E, which I would hope that no trad shooter has ever done  :)  there is no problem trimming from the nock end. Just pop the nock out and trim away. Of course, you can still use hot melt to put the points in, just be careful that you do not overheat it (doing so will damage the carbon). A good rule of thumb is to hold the point/insert with your bare hand while putting the glue on. If it gets too hot for you to hold, then it's too hot to go in your shaft. If you need to take it out, just heat the point gently while pulling on it with pliers. It should slip out pretty easily...
I've done so much with so little for so long that now I can do anything with nothing in no time at all...

I use small pieces ripped off of a plastic bag. Namely a wal-mart plastic shopping bag. Take a small piece, place over the insert and push in. Rip off the excess and you are ready to go. Great friction fit that I've never had an issue removing. By the way someone here at the gang posted this before.
