Woodies/Different Spine

It is my understanding when testing different wood spined shafts, your not trying to shoot a group. But rather looking for good arrow flight, Is this correct ? In the pictures below one arrow is spined 51 and the other 55.



I picked these up at a Trad shop had to do a little traveling but it was worth it. The bow used was a Bear Kodiak Mag #48@28 29 1/2 in shaft. The distance was 18yds.

Based on the information would you say I need arrows spined in the 50-55 # range 125 grn head.

I don't want to be underspined, these arrows flew GREAT. Just wanted to make sure. When I shot the second arrow it smacked the other    and yeah it felt good.

I might add I wasn't watching for arrow flight, should I back up and just watch flight ?

Any help suggestions are greatly Appreciated.

If you build you own arrows,you can match the spine within 1-2 #. For buying wood shafts,50-55 # range is acceptable,and most likely a person can not shoot good enough to tell the difference between perfectly matched arrows,and arrows that are in a range of 50-55#.

Since I build my own,I like to match them as perfectly as I can in weight,and spine.

It's a good idea to make sure your arrows are flying perfectly. Try using a video cam if you have one.

If you already did this forgive me.  Back up to 30 yards and you will be able to get a better look at the flight.  But from what those pics show I'd say you are on the money.

You want the best flight you can get, but you also want them to go where you point them!  Looks like you found the zone.

shoot a arrow from 6 yards into the target if the arrow nock s you look at it is to a right angle the arrow in underspined, if it is straight on if is perfect, if it is so the nock is to the right angle ist is overspined... it looked to me that the arrow that was the bottom arrow was just a little underspined....I also then just shoot at 30 yards to see if I can pick up any problems with arrow flight...
