3 or 4# weight reduction?

I have a PLGA Widow long bow that is 54# @29" I can shoot it but as I am getting older it is beginning to become a little more difficult. Called the Widow folks and they said that they could reduce it by 3 to 4#. Would 3 to 4 # make a significant difference?

I reduced a Bob Lee for a friend a few weeks ago from 52 to 50.
He said he could tell a difference and shoots it better at that weight.

Had one of mine reduced from 52 to 47# and made a huge difference to me

If you feel that the actual weight is a little bit too much for you, then go for the 4# reduction we don't become younger

My wife had Dan reduce her 44# Whip HS down to 40#. Definitely made a difference for her. I only shoot it here and there a bit, but I feel the difference too.

Also, I switched bows last year, from a 4# hybrid to a 45# (different bowyers though, both well known and respected here) and I feel that for sure.

4# doesn't sound like much, but it is a 6℅ reduction.

But you should really try to find someone who has a 50# bow you can shot a bit to see for yourself.

I'd take 5 pounds off as you will really notice the difference in feel.  Then you won't have to worry about repeating it in a year or two.  It's fairly easy to take 5# off a bow...either yourself or have a bowyer due it...most bowyers will take 5# off.  You will be amazed at how much better you shoot.

I'm not sure they could reduce it by 5# without affecting the integrity of the bow.  I had BW do the same thing to one of my bows some years back, and they told me the same thing: 3-4 pounds.  They will reduce it by as much as they think they can get away with.  It worked out well for me, and I recommend doing it.

Yes, it will make a significant difference. I had my Black Widow HS60 57lb reduced a similar percentage due to an injury and it turned out beautifully... I also had them tiller it to 3 under at the same time, which is a great time to do it. For me it made sense because I wanted to keep and use the bow that was my only traditional bow I ever had. I bought it new in 1987 and we have lots of history together. Good advice in the above posts, only you can decide if 3-4lb reduction is enough for the long haul...
