I need a little help with arrow selection. I am setting up a new bow and am wanting to shoot full length or longer arrows to narrow my gaps and add weight. The bow is 45lb @ 29" longbow cut to center with a draw length of 29". If I start with a 34" Carbon arrow with 200gr up front the chart says I need a 350. With a 150 up front I'd need a 400.  It seems obvious to me to go heavy on the tip to get a better foc on the longer arrow. My question is do I go with the 350 and just keep adding weight to the tip or go with the 400 and keep cutting the arrow in small increments until I get proper flight? I have studied arrow selection a lot but I always screw it up some how.  All advice is welcome.

Either way will work as long as you end up with a well tuned arrow.

Seems really heavy are you leaving them full length?

For example, I have pma and psa, both 48@28 and I draw over 29". I can shoot
CE 150, cut to 30" with 175 up front 500 grains
CE 250 cut 30" with 225 up front 590 grains
Beman ICS 500 cut over 30" 225 front 450 grains
GT 5575 cut short at 29.5" 225 up front think 540 grains
Predator 51@28 shoots same stuff

That does seem heavy full length. I shoot beman 400 spine full length out of my predator 47#  with 145 up front. If I want to go heavier I need to cut them down.the 29" arrows I tune out of that own see 390 ACC with 200 up front required for good bare shaft flight. But like the gentleman above me said as long as you get good flight it doesn't matter.

Arrows for my Tall Tines recurve 51 lb@31", GT Trad 0.340, 32", 100 grain insert, 200 grain point, 660 grains, shoot like darts, bare shaft and fletched.
68" Mohawk "Classic" 50# @ 30", Bacote
62" Trad Tines Recurve 50# @ 30"
Ben Pearson Colt 62" 41# @ 28"
Ben Pearson Golden Sovereign Knight 60" 50# @ 28"

If you're keeping your arrows long to keep your gaps small, I would think you would want to go with the softer (and lighter) shaft. Most of what you gain by longer arrows in narrowing your gap will be lost in the greater drop of a heavier arrow.

I don't put a lot of stock in arrow charts.
How close to center or past is the window cut. that will make a big difference.

Think I'd start with a 500 spine full length or maybe a 600 spine full length then tune the tip to the bow and arrow I believe you will be way too stiff and heavy with 340's or 400's out of a 45 lbs Longbow.

Hey Josh,,sent you a private message ,,,thanks gib

Thanks for the help yall. I am trying to get the tip weight up to account for the weight of the full length arrows foc. Its just a thought... Not sure what I'll do yet. Most likely go full length and cut a lil off at a time to give me the longest best tuned arrow possible.
