I normally use craft store water based acrylics for my crests. Lately I've been wanting to try some Testor's. My question is this, is it necessary to thin the paint before use? Or is it fine right out of the jar?

A.S.

I have used it straight out of the jar with great results.

X2 especially if you want to crest directly on to a carbon or aluminum shaft, IME.

BAK

Both ways.  Sometimes a bit of thinner is needed, and sometimes not.

I use it right out of the jar. I've never thinned any enamel

Any problems with it running or smearing under minwax poly?

Out of the jar with no thinning works good....

Straight out of the jar, no need for thinning Testor's by my experiences.

Michaels has it. So would any model airplane hobby type store.

Bunyan - I use Minwax wipe on over Testors. I let the Testors dry a couple of days then wipe a light first coat, followed by 2 or 3 more coats allowing a day of drying in between. Has worked for me.

Thanks, bill! I have some minwax poly I picked up and wanted to try like you described. Wasn't sure if testors would work for cresting. Thanks again!

I too use nothing but Testors and always straight out of the bottle as well.

Some time ago, I ordered a bunch straight from the Testors website. All the colors available and even some out of the ordinary ones.

Same here.  Usually on opening a new jar it's OK as is, but after that, it may need a few drops of thinner.
