Probably going to jinx myself...

With the way my luck runs, I probably shouldn't post this, but here goes!
Being retired now, I actually have time to hunt. Hunt when the conditions are favorable, when I want to, just about any time I want to. In the past, I always had to "make hay when the sun shines" so to speak. Having limited time, I pressured myself to take the first legal deer that I had an ethical shot at, which is a good thing. But now I can wait a bit and try to kill a mature buck. Try to put an extra doe in the freezer. Maybe, just maybe, FINALLY put a turkey in the freezer!
I have always wanted to TRY to do a blood trail comparison between my old favorite 3 blade heads and my new favorite 2 blade single bevel head. I have all of my stands set for 10-20 yard shots and I plan to go with a completely broadside shot with each style of head and do a real world comparison of the blood trails. Probably won't do anything to end the age old "which leaves a better blood trail" debate, but I hope to be able to accomplish it this season.
I have my knee replacements scheduled for November 28, so I have just a little less than 2 months to get this done. All I need is a couple of cooperative deer to follow my script!
Wish me luck!>>>----------->Mike

Enjoy your retirement.......hunt because you want to, not because you have to fit it in. I got a new knee last year in June, Dec. 5 I'm getting a partial on the other one......best of luck with yours.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

ron w-no worries about me trying to fit in (I couldn't if I tried!) and thanks again for the well wishes on my surgeries! My biggest concern is for me not to over hunt my prime spots. I've learned over the years that in my prime areas, there is very little buck movement in daylight before the end of October. Due to my lack of time when I was working (10-12 hour days, sometimes 6-7 days a week) I hunted stands when conditions were borderline at best because it might be the only time I had to hunt. This season, I have permission to hunt another small property, 5 acres of woods that is less than a 1/2 mile from my backdoor. The property owners are complaining about the deer eating their garden and shrubs There were 17 deer in their front yard just a few weeks ago! My hope is to take a couple of does behind their house and "save" my prime spots for when conditions are right. Never had that option before!
