I am considering buying a digital trail camera but almost every camera that I have read about has some drawbacks.
As I intend to set up on game trails shutter speed is important to me, however many cameras with good shutter speed have drawbacks such as taking a long time to recover from "sleep mode", difficulty in set-up, poor battery life etc. etc.

What recommendations do you guys with practical experience have?

Is infa red worth the extra cash?

Thanks

Don't wanna put a link up and have this get deleted, but of the digitals I've used this is by far the best.Try pixcontroller.com and take a look at the digital eye.It has a "trail mode" that offers excellent sleep/shutter time, and will reset itself every time it takes a picture.Check out the site and read about it.It's a little pricey, but an excellent trail camera.

If budget is a concern (like it is for me), I give good marks to the Moultrie Game Spy 4.0. This was my first one to try so I wanted to go cheap ($79 on sale at local sports store).

It was out 2 weeks during my hunt in September and I collected 76 pics of critters (mainly does and fawns) and was happy with the results.  It has no viewer so I just removed the card and inserted in my digital camera to review pics.

It is slow in trigger speed across trails, but I set it up at an angle (45 degree) and got good results.  Tape a piece of white paper over the flash to avoid those huge, bulbous-looking eyes of the deer.

I would not hesitate in buying this camera again.
