Reading the threads on here lately , got me thinking about my dad and how he shot his Ben Pearson recurve .
When he was in his mid 40s , he was having an awful time with bursitis .
He could hardly draw his bow , let alone shoot much .
This one afternoon we were shooting out back and he said ," If I could only have this bow in front of me with it sideways and pull it to my hip like this , I could shoot all day . "
So being a smart alec , he let one go at about 20 yards and missed the bullseye by about a foot .
He then walked the next few shots to a group size about a little bigger than a softball .
He shot that way for about two years , until his shoulder healed up .
Beats me how he could do that , I've tried and I usually hit about 4 feet in front of the backstop .
Oh well it's a neat memory for me .      :archer:

Memories with family and friends are the best. Love the sig.

My guess he had exceptional hand eye coordination and determination. Look at gunslingers shooting from the hip.
shoot straight shoot often

Yes, it sounds like your dad had very good hand/eye coordination. When his shoulder healed, did he have a difficult time reverting back to standard archery form?

Pulling the string into the upper chest was a traditional anchor for some native groups. I've tried it and can do well out to 10-15 yards, past that and things go south for me.

This is a link to a thread about my dad .
Yes he got back to shooting normally just fine .
He was one of those people that didn't shoot very often but could still hit what he was looking at .
The story on this link can sure sum it up .
At the time of the story ,he hadn't shot a bow for more than 20 years .
Thanks for reading .

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
