Matching wood to carbons?

While shooting my preferred carbons this weekend, It came to mind, I was wondering if I provided an exact carbon arrow that I shoot to an accomplished Arrowsmith...wondering if they could duplicate the arrow in a wooden version...as for weight(GPI), spine, feather placement, etc.

I have shot and made wooden arrows of my own for over 40 years, but I am digging carbons with my current set ups, but want to match arrow- to -arrow in a wooden version...does that make any sense?   :dunno:

Hey Scott.  I shot woodies for more than 50 years before incorporating carbons into my target shooting and hunting.  I can say this from personal experience.  One can build a woodie close to the same, but not exactly.

Pretty easy to get the same length, weight, spine and feather placement, but the weight will be distributed differently. The carbon is likely to have more FOC.  In fact, I simply can't build woodies with as much FOC as some of my carbons

Too, the arrows may react differently even if they are the same spine. Carbon recovers more quickly.  And, because of the thicker diameter of woodies, one might need a different static spine to shoot the same dynamic spine as a carbon.

Probably some other nuances as well, but that's the gist of it.

If I was an arrowsmith I would want a lot of money to take on such a project...there is just too much difference in the recovery rate of those two materials...and why it is nice we have so many choices today...and just one more reason I gave up tinkering with woodies

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42
