Help identify this wood

I have a Bob Thompson zipper that I have never seen one like it is truly unique. I can email or text pics if someone would want to post for me. I have asked several people and no one seems to have a clue or that he even made a bow like this it was built April 4 94.

looks like "walnut" and "charcoal" stratabond to me.
The charcoal might be the "onyx" colored stuff.

They are a laminated plywood type material.

could be dymondwood as well.

dymondwood normally looks a little more "plasticy".

Does it feel like normal wood weight wise...or quite a bit more dense?

If it feels quite a bit heavier than it should it could be dymondwood.

the more I look the more I don't think it's dymondwood or dymalux.
The core/wedges matche too closely to the riser...nobody would use dymondwood or dymalux  for a core....too heavy

So either stratabond or spetraply..both very similar materials.

No doubt it's Stratabond (Actionwood), spectra wasn't around back then I dont think, at least not in the bowyers world.

I see on his website he says this.....
"Risers are offered in either charcoal or brown Dymalux."

I'd bet there's a high chance that's what you have a combo of.

Zradix, he said it was a Bob Thompson Zipper. It's a lot older than the current Zippers   :D

I really don't have a clue about the bowyers history behind the company...lol

Funny though..google zipper bows and the description right at the top says "Zipper Manufacturing is family owned and operated. Master Craftsman Bob Thompson and son, Larry, design and hand craft all Zipper bows and accessories."

...kinda threw me...lol

So it's stratabond and I'm not familiar with that so is that good or bad and you are right the lines on all the riser pieces and limb wedge are so close to aligning.

Lots of bowyers use it.

Malcom that is bad  you should send it to me and I will test it for 2 to 3 years to make sure its ok..  haha    Great bow should last a lifetime...

Actionwood (stratabond) is a phenomenal bow material.
Stronger and more consistent than exotic wood.
Plus that particular bow you have is REALLY nice looking!
