My limbs are 59@30 on my PSA (drawn to 30.5). I'm thinking of getting them reduced to 56@30. Black widow says it shouldn't be a problem.

For those that have done it, could you tell any difference in smoothness, sound, or appearance after having a set of limbs reduced? I can easily handle the weight where it's at now, by only for about 10-20 arrows before fatigue sets in. My shoulder is jacked up and seems to bother me more lately.

Other than shooting less weight than what I prefer, I'm trying to figure out if there are any problems associated with doing a weight reduction.

I've had this done before, when you get them back they will look brand new. No issues with smoothness or noise. They may be able to take more then 3# off them depending how close they came to hitting poundage when the limbs were made.

I've had it done on a 56" PCH that was 55@28 and they got it down to 51@28. They looked brand new when I got them back and it made for a better shooting bow for me. Quick turnaround and reasonable price, I was very happy.

I had the same experience as the above post... You may think about selling that bow and buying one closer to the weight you want. I doubt a 3 or 4 pound reduction is going to help that shoulder out. You do need to keep in mind that the reduction is going to cost you around $225. The extra money could be applied to a new bow if you sell your present bow. Good luck with which ever choice you make.

I had it done on my 1987 HS60 that was all black. 57lbs @28". I injured my fingers and shoulder and opted for a weight reduction. At the same time I had them tiller for 3 Under.  The limbs turned out to be a beautiful blonde maple under all that black. I had them leave the blonde maple but add Diamondback skins, refinished the handle original black. She's 52lbs @28" and more beautiful & smoother than ever!!! If you'd like the weight reduction, go for it...

Cool. Thanks guys. I will probably send it back tomorrow. I had this one custom made, and would like to keep it. I really don't want to go any lighter than 56-57# at my draw anyway. Just hope I can get it back before turkey season. Gotta retune arrows and everything.....

Had it done recently absolutely no problems

Getting it back before turkey season may be an issue.

I just put in an order for a new bow last week, and they are running 10 to 11 weeks to build a new one right now.

Yeah, I've thought about the wait time. I've decided to think it over through the spring, and maybe do it around May. I can handle the weight for right now, just not for 60-70 arrows like i was. I'd rather not cut it close.

I have never owned a widow, but have had weight reduced from 3-4 bows over the years, and it was always better after the weight got reduced!

I believe the reduction/refinish time is more like 2-5 weeks.  I sent a PL II back to be reduced/refinished on the 19th of December and got it back mid January.  It looks like a brand new bow, plus I shoot it just as well for longer periods of time.  You could also keep an eye out for used limbs, or even order new lighter limbs for a PSA.

Hey Donald, I had both my SA's done, They came back looking new. I did not notice any difference in anyway, with smoothness or sound. I did change my whole arrow and head weight set up though. Very positive experience!

Well...I went ahead and bit the bullet. I packaged the limbs up this evening and will be mailing them out in the morning. I sent Roger an email to let him know they were going to be on the way. I'm crossing my fingers it gets done before turkey season starts.

Hopefully, 56# will feel a little better on my shoulder. I know it will be more than enough for whitetails, as I've killed a few with my last PSA at that weight already. I'll admit, I initially had some concerns about elk hunting with it.

Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do in my spare time until I get my bow back.

I wouldn't hesitate to hunt anything with a 56# Widow, especially if you've got a 30" draw.  I have a 52# PCH that spits a 575 grain arrow just as quickly as a 57# longbow I used to own and had no reservations about hunting anything with. Good luck, you'll be happy with the refinish/reduction.
