Picked a bow from the classifieds ads that looks like it was repaired. It's a Great Northern Super Ghost, an earlier model. Bow looks in great shape, but it looks like there was a vertical crack in the riser. Job looks like it was done very well, you really need to eagle eye it, to see it. Question to you all is, do any of you shoot a bow that the riser was repaired, and how long did it last.

Depends on the severity of the damage, but generally, yup, I'd shoot it.

I know of two bows I've owned that are still going strong 5-6 years after the repair.  Also, one of the 1957 bear Polars I owned was sent back to the factory for repair and it was still going when I was shooting it in 2010  :D

If it was not mentioned in the ad I'd like to know who it was.

Seems a dishonest thing to do here.

I have a GN Ghost that I bought cheap with an open crack at the sight window.  That usually comes from guys trying to string a recurve in the step through method.  Just a little torque and that's the weak spot.  Most are easy to fix if not completely snapped...either gluing & clamping &/or drilling & lag pegging across the crack...Doc

It may be OK. I have a D bow that started to delaminate under tha handle wrap after spending a week in a soaked bowsock (hurricane Isobel) and trying to string it. The bowyer "cooked" it for a week to dry it out then reglued and "cooked" it again. Im still shooting it ten years later. I get nervous buying used bows now that alot of guys are having bows "reduced". I would want to know up front if the bow had been modified or repaired.

Just to reiterate, I did contact the seller and will wait for his response but if the bow was repaired correctly I don't have a problem with keeping it. I have bought others from him and his bows always come as advertised.

I've seen a bow broken in two through the riser put back together with CA glue.  That was over 10 years ago and its still going.  When reassembled you could only see a hairline crack. I would suspect that it matters more where it is on the riser.  The bow has been hunted with and shot as a primary bow during that decade.

Zradix , It would be wise to know itf there is an actual repair, maybe the guy that sold the bow never saw it. ect ect ect. Befor you ruin anyones reputation. Just a thought. God Bless you all an have a grat day, Steve

Heard back, the bow was never even shot to the best of his knowledge, so I can only guess that the bow came to him that way.

Have to say I'm real picky about my bows, the slightest imperfection perks me up. Damn my Eyes.
