Used to hunt hogs on the Hopland grade, between Ukiah, and Hopland.
Makes me homesick.

We use 50# ACS CX bows and Cedar or Fir arrows with 2 blade heads; about 12GPP
My son got a pass through and another arrow went from the haunch through the lungs, and was stopped by the opposite shoulder. I don't know the thread on 'the other site'?
I think penetration is a lot about shot placement.

Initially we had agreed to be at the Ranch by 2 PM. At 6:30 AM Bob Larson called to say the weather would be really nasty and could we get there a lot earlier because the hunting was "bound to be unreal".
Adam and I got there before noon and started our hunt shortly after that. Adam had first shot and about two hours into the hunt-it was raining and blowing like crazy and the water came down so hard and cold our hands actually hurt.
Presently Adam went into stealth mode and was sneaking on a good Hog, but 15 minutes later the wind changed and the game was up.
Shortly after that we stopped for another couple of good animals. I could not see the Hogs but saw Adams arrows erupt into an explosion of spray as he released two shots in rapid succession. The first shot was a pass through and the second shot skewered most of the animal as it entered the rear quarter and was stopped by the opposite shoulder-the Hog was about 3/4 away when the arrow hit. The Boar only moved a few feet from the 1st arrow to the second and flopped over, legs still kicking and a few moments later Adam delivered a coup de grace and all movement came to an end.
Rather than do any field dressing we continued to hunt, and it was my turn while Adam stayed with his downed animal.
10 minutes later, Bob Larson spots a big animal sleeping in the hollow of a large Pepperwood.
With the help of binos we were able to figure out what was where, and how I should place the arrow. There was no need to hurry so I took my time and the arrow entered right where we agreed. The Hog emerged from his hiding spot snapping and snarling like he was on fire. He looked menacing but was already dead on his feet the BH severed everything connecting the heart and lungs. Still he ran off downhill and crashed to a rest within sight. Those choppers had looked so cool when he bolted out of the hollowed tree.
Adam and I both had fur on the ground-our first double header!
The hogs were less than 200 yards apart where they lay.
Anyone who has hunted with Bob Larson will tell you he is a great guide and pushes his clients to the limit.
