Hey Gang!

I went bowfishing for the first time with my Bama longbow and traditional spool reel. I didn't do too bad, conditions were not ideal and it was hard to see fish. I ended up nabbing this guy below.

On the other hand, I experienced trouble with my arrow snapping free of the line on one occasion and had to fight constant twisting of my line the rest of the day.

I'll get better at taking care of this but I noticed that I am only really using about 30 feet of line per shot. I have 25 yards on my reel!!!

How much line do you figure I need for places like this below - mainly bank fishing. Maybe the occasional boat or canoe?

I put all the line my reel will hold without getting stiff when you reel all the way in.  You WILL break your line from time to time, no since needing to respool each time you break a little off.

First of all: nice dogfish!

Second: I use about 20 yards of line in my AMS Retriever. On a hand wrap spool, I usually have somewhere around 15 yards.

Friends call me Pac

I have a hand wrap reel and my line stretches from the bathroom doorknob, over my lab and all the way back to the computer desk.  Total leangth about 25 yards

An old hand me down recurve sparked the fire, Trad Gang fanned the flames.  There is no stopping now.  Burn baby burn!

25 yards or enough to just keep the reel from stiffening up.

What do you mean by stiffening up?
