Does the full moon affect elk like whitetail deer? Wife and I are going elk hunting on Sat., she drew a bull tag here in KY and moon is full. Just wondering if any of you elk experts had any input on this.

Given a choice I would prefer to hunt when its not full.  I don't have near enough experience to claim to have documented it scientifically though.  Just my personal preference.

That being said, the best time to hunt is any time you can.  Don't stay home just because the moon isn't right!

I would 2nd what Whip said. I too am no expert but as a member of the deer family I would think that Elk would be impacted in some way just as whitetails are. That said.....none of us can shoot anything at home. Good luck to you and your wife!!

Not an Elk expert by any means but I have found that the full moon will make them more active at night and less active during daylight hours.

Thanks guys. We have Oct. 3-9 to hunt, 7days only on a drawn bull tag. They seem to act the same Full or dark moon. After first hour or so of daylight they hit the timber, come out the last 45 minutes of daylight and feed all night. If we dont get a shot during first morning, may still hunt the timber.
