Not good!!  Like GMMAT said, glad you're ok.  It could have been a lot worse.  Big bummer that oldie has to be retired now.

Man... that just bites !  Any cracks down the limb?  If not... I wonder if anyone's ever tried reshaping the tips and remake a new tip.  Probably end up with a little lighter pull.  Just seems a shame to have to retire an old friend.

I had that happen once and received a face full of fiberglass and a cut on my arm from the bowstring. I'm glad you are okay. You definitely need a new bow!

Looks to me like the string groove was filed in way deeper then it needed to be, weakening the bow in that area.  I also realize it was a vintage bow as well.  Glad your okay.  Chad

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Better the bow than you. Hang her up as a collector item. This your only bow?

What a bummer! I had a longbow delaminate on me just as I released. The bow jumped out of my hand and hit the ground. It was kind of scary. Then the realization that my baby was dead set in and I was really distraught.

Thank God that you were not hurt. I have had several blow up on me. One delaminated on the top limb and three others broke right at the handle. Last on got me nine stitches on the forehead.

That bow is a Tri-State Jaguar, and that particular one was sold by Sherwood Archery..not made by them.  Tri-State was a division of United States Archery and was located in Danbury, CT.   Were you using a dacron string?  Tri-State used a lot of woven glass (Pantherglas)...very tough stuff, but there may have been a crack in the tip.  I've had several of these bows and they are great shooters.

I would consider having someone like Mike McCreedy cut down the other tip and remake string nocks.  It will add about five pounds to the bow but will still shoot fine.  If you are decent with a rasp and file you can do it yourself.  Throw it my way if you are going to throw it away 8^).

Call Mike McCreedy at Mad Dog archery? He is in the sponsor section. Lt him know what happened and maybe he can fix it for you.
