I use the Scent-Away soap and deoderant. I've seen a lot more deer since i started using them about 3 years ago.

Another vote for Mitchum unscented. It has the same chemicals as the scent killer deoderant.

Arm & Hammer unscented.  Used to like the Mennen unscented, but my store doesn't carry it anymore.  Quite frankly, I hate the smell of any scented deodorant, soaps, etc.

I've had mixed results with Pit-Stop/Lavalin (mostly very good).  I like to wear it a couple days before heading off on a big trip and it'll usually cover me for 10 days or more.  Never tried the crystal (does it have a brand name?).

Once in a while I'll put on a skiff of Brut cologne to conjure up the 70's, but during hunting season I won't wear any cologne, and all showers are with the 'green' soap.

Lslite,

Other than washing all your clothes in unscented laundry detergent and keeping yourself clean there really isn't much more you can do.  I would suggest watching what you eat a few days before you go hunting.  Some foods have a way of bleeding through your skin...I think...and thus make you more noticeable to the deer's nose.

I eat alot of vegetables and nuts and try to watch my intake of meat and spicey foods before each hunt.  I also take Nullo tablets starting about 3 days out.  These tablets are designed for people that have had  their colons removed and must wear an external bag.

Anyway...just a suggestion.

There are differant types of naturally occuring bacteria on human skin, particularly under arms and neather regions , soap destroys the not so stinky bacteria and allows the really stinky ones to proliferate .

I switched to daily use of unscented Sorboline and Glycerine costs about $4.00 a pint from the supermarket , washes off the stinky bacteria and the good not so stinky ones are left behind and use a salt crystal deodorant stick . After a few washes you will notice you will not NEED to wear a scented deodorant and on really hot days the salt crystal will do the trick .

Sorbolene and Glycerene has made a big differance for me out hunting

over the years I found that baking soda seems to work the best for washing hunting togs, also a little in a baggie goes a long way if you sweat on the way in to the stand. I just put a few grains on the under arms and it seems to work. I also wash each morning prio to hunting with unscented soap from one of the major bow firms.

BUt I guess the best is keep your nose into the wind and you will be all right.

Scent Control is a very intriguing subject for me. I did some research on this a few years ago and I'll try to share what I remember. Some of the processes we've already heard above. But I'll try to relate our routine as best as possible. De-scent your washer and dryer. A lot of folks don't think about this.  We use scent free detergent and do not add anything to the dryer so this step is already done for us year round. Wash your clothes in any of the scent free detergents. We lean toward "Hunters Specialty". Don't forget to descent your bath towels, I think some folks over look this important step. Take them right out of the dryer and take them straight outside. Bathe your self in one of the scent free soaps. Here again we lean toward "Hunters Specialty". Apply "Hunters Specialty" scent free deorderant. Now your almost ready. Here is another step a lot of folks leave out. Brush your teeth with baking soda. Swallow some. It taste kind of nasty but you'll get used to it. Swallowing some helps take care of the stomach to mouth connection to bad breath. Take something in the field with you that occurs naturally that you can have in your mouth all the time. We use walnuts a lot because we don't have an apple orchard nearby. A man once said to me, if you could hold your breath the entire time your in the field 80% of your scent problems would be taken care of. For your gear I have a recipe for a descenting solution that youi can make for pennies. I'll post that later when I remember the exact measurements. Other things to do is watch your red meat intake, watch your spices and alcohol intake. If you do all these things you still will not beat their nose everytime but you'll be surprised how often you will.
Hope this helps.

Most scent molecules are high or low pH, or very easily oxidized. That is why this recipe works well. Baking Soda has a very strong neutral pH so it will neutralize the high or low pH molecules and Hydrogen Peroxide will oxidize the kind of scent molecules that are easily oxidized.

2 quarts Distilled Water
1.5 quarts Hydrogen Peroxide
.5 cups Baking Soda
1 oz. unscented laundry detergent

After thorough mixing store in bottles that won't let light through. Light will reduce the shelf life of this product. Also keep caps loose for a week because this concoctioin will generate some gas and the bottles may come apart violently. Or the way I like to say it, "Rapid, Random, Disassembly".

I've never had a problem with the deer winding me on a regular basis but I am very conscious of cleanliness both myself and my clothes. This year I followed the advice of G. Fred and tried chloraphyl tablets along with everything else that I do. I got mine at the local vitamin store but your local drug store might have them in house. G. Fred swears by them.

I use Cod Liver oil, their gonna smell you anyway so why not freak'em out long enough to get a shot.
When I run out of Cod Liver oil I use Mitchum clear unscented gel.

I use Irish Spring deodorant soap, then I wash my golden locks with Pantene shampoo and conditioner, as nothing gives my hair that healthy, shiny bounce like Pantene. Then to disquise my breath I drink copius amounts of strong coffee and smoke cigarettes. If its cold I put on my trusty Filson wool jacket that has never seen the inside of a drycleaners, and has seen about a million campfires and 2 million cigarettes and cigars, if not cold then I usually go in whatever I happen to be wearing at the time. I do play the wind though and if it is swirling around and not making nice, I go home, usually nearly stepping on a deer and scaring the crap out of myself. Its pretty much whatever makes you feel better, if your upwind they are going to smell you. I guess you could stick a pine bough down your pants too...ya get my drift.

I use CRYSTAL deodorant stick that I get a Walgreens.  It's probably the same stuff as the other crystals mentioned, just in a convenient twist up stick.  It is just a deodorant, not an anti-perspirant.  A stick lasts a LONG time.

I wanted Paul's Pit Stop to work for me, but it just wouldn't, not at all (whew!).
