I had a Martin Howatt Hunter for about a week. I bought the bow from my uncle. My aunt threw a fit(it was a gift). To keep peace ,I took the Martin back to My uncle. He had a Damon Howatt Hunter. I traded bows with him. The Damon has a quiver,new string and stringer. He also gave me a box of 100 new cedar shafts uncut @ 32". This bow doesnt have a mark on it.I think it looks better than the Martin. He bought the bow new but wasnt sure when(90's?). I have a total of 275.00 in the bow and shafts. I was curious if I came out ok on the deal? The bow has HH 92087 on it. Can anyone tell me what year it is by this?

Many people would happily make that trade.  There are those that really favor the Damon Howatts over the Martins.  The extra goodies make it all the sweeter.  I have one of each and find both of them a pleasure to shoot.

You made a great trade!!! I much prefer the Howatt's over the Martins. Does it have a Rosewood Riser?  If so, Awesome!!

9 is the number of the bowyer working at Howatt that actually made your bow. 2 is the last number of the year it was built [ I would guess that would be 1972, [Howatt sold out to Martin not too many years after that] 087 means your bow was the 87th bow of that model made that year.

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE AGE !! If the limbs are straight [no twists] put that bow to work!! They are one of, if not the fastest and Most Beautiful of the 'Production Bows" ever built and there were plenty of them before the "mechanical garage door openers" took the lime light.

It has definate value.  More than the Martin, I'm sure. So, don't let go cheap if you decide to replace it at some point.

I had all of this explained to me a few years back. As I too, have a few Howatt's in my collection. I'm sure if I'm way off track someone here will correct the info. for you.

They are all Howatts!  Still built in the same place by some of the same bowyers.  Some just have the Martin logo on them.

Mr L. E. Carroll, I have a Damon Howatt hunter with the serial # 2401. It was the DH logo on a drawn recurve pointing down. Any clue the date of manufacture. the 4 digit serial number is throwing me for a loop. Thanks!

Thanks L.E. I didnt think it was that old,1972. I'm glad it is though.It doesnt have a scratch on it. The whole bow looks brand new. The limbs are straight,there are no dings or anything.

I think you got a keeper blind one, Mine also looks brand new. It is a pleasure to shoot. I missed my first doe of the season with mine, but now the Bob Lee gets all the woods time.

sorry to rain on your parade, but that bow was made in 1989, 13 years after martins bought our shop. we used that brown dyed maple from 1986-1994.

No rain here, I love the bow. I like the looks and it is comfortable for me. Gonna keep it for awhile.
