Being a naturally curious hunter, I'm trying to figure the live weight of a whitetail buck that scaled 155 lbs at the butcher.

Now keep in mind, this deer was not just field dressed, but the head, hide and feet were also removed.

Anyone got an educated guess about it's live weight?

215 - 220 max live weight. My butcher showed me one last year that was 240# for the carcass. That was head, hide and legs and guts out. They weighed it field dressed and it was 340#. Guts would have been around 20# he figured. That puts the deer at 360# live weight(120lbs for head, hide, legs & guts). On a 155# carcass, I'm guestimating your live weight would be 65# or so more.

I butcher my own deer and here it was I figured out this pass week.  A field dressed doe weighed 102lbs, after removing front legs hide and head the carcass weighed 76lbs. I was left with about 22lbs of clean, trimmed, boneless meat. I figured this doe at about 125-130lbs on the hoof.  I would take a guess at your buck being about 225lbs maybe more live weight.
225lbs - 30lbs field dresiing = 195lbs
195lbs - 35lbs for head hide horns legs= 160-155lbs

I would guess around 220 as Killdeer, but it is hard to say. innards would be around 30#s or so and hide and head another 20#s and was it just feet or legs up to the meaty part? Shawn

Killy, Do you like fresh deer liver?

If so, I can mail you a Walla Walla sweet onion to go with some.    :goldtooth:

Sooooo, it looks like most are figuring 220-225.

Killdeer

I killed a buck one year (1993) that weighed 154 at the meat locker. (Before deciding never to take a deer to the meat locker again.) I had a chart I got from somewhere, Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine, or VA Game and Fish, that put him at just under 200 live weight. I mentally picked up and weighed a head, hide and legs (from knees and hocks down) and figured 25 pounds. You didn't mention antlers, and since you didn't, I figured they weren't very heavy.   ;)

260 pounds using this site.

155 (hanging weight) x 133% = 206.15 (field dressed weight)

206.15 x 126% = 259.75 pounds live weight

Food for thought or just for food. But your avarage deer will yeild 1/3 live weight cut wrapped and bone out.So if you get 75# of meat cut and wrapped the deer was about 3 times that or around225.3 live weight.......bowdoc
