interested in the sitka gear. has anyone tried the new celsius line, any reviews would be appreciated.

I haven't gotten my celsius stuff yet but I used the 90% last year and couldn't have been happier.I did add a layer of thin fleece when the temps got below 20f and was very comfortable.

With the polar tech added to the celsius line it should make a big difference. Really looking forward to using it this year.  :)

All of mine came in on Friday except for my Ascent pants and ball cap which should be here Monday. I couldn't wait to try it so as soon as I opened the boxes, on it went. I ended up with 5 layers on at once, core layer (wicking), traverse layer (insulation), 90% layer (outer layer) Celsius layer (outer cold weather) and nimbus layer (storm). With all these on the movement I had was unbelievable! I was able to squat and kneel easily which I could not do with my KOM outer layers alone (bowman jacket). When I packed all pieces along with 2 hats and 2 pair of gloves in my big ziplock bag, the bundle was about half the size of my Sleeping Indian pants and vest and a little over a third the size of my KOM jacket alone and at least half the weight of it. The garments have been designed with some really nice additions like strategically placed zipper pockets, zipper and snap legs, inside venting leg zippers on the Nimbus pants and long sleeves with thumb holes to ride low on the wrists and stay in place on the Traverse shirt. The Celsius bibs comes with a binocular pocket on the chest which will really be handy. I ordered XL and XLT in all pieces but the nimbus gear and I ordered XXL in the jacket. It was the only piece that I had to return because it was too big. I am a size XLT and the gear (except the XXL jacket) fit like it was tailored for me. There was just enough room to function as with the Traverse insulation layer but no baggy and hanging material. There has been a lot of research and delelopment time put into the new line and it shows. This is, hands down, the best and most functional hunting clothing that I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. Absolutely outstanding.

Guys and gals, even though I am a Sitka Prostaff member, I am also a Moderator here and if I don't believe it 100%, I won't write it, and I believe every word that I typed here (that is if I spelled them right, LOL!).
The prices are a bit higher than some other lines and quite a bit lower than others. I guess in this case, you get what you pay for, which is not the case with all manufacturers. I would absolutely rather have this than any other that I have tried to date.

hy bob, you mentioned a 90%layer, is that the 90% coat underneath or a shirt. thanks for the info, sounds like a great product.will have to check the sizing and get my order in.

Bob Walker

The 90% is the coat of the first outer layer but I did have the base and insulation layer shirts on underneath of it.

I just got mine and I love the weight, comfort, silence, and flexibility, but...Hunting in the mountains of Wyoming I was still cold..  I had the core layer, traverse layer, mountain pants, mountain shirt, and the 90% Jacket on.  Any suggestions for better warmth without adding much bulk?

Would the celius vest possibly make the difference?

Other question  not stated in their catalog or website; do you wear the traverse over the core or do you chose which of those base layers to use on that day?

Wary Buck

I used the 90% line last year and when it got real cold I used a layer of Winona fleece under the outer layer.  Pretty much did the trick.  The vest is a pretty important part of the system if you ask me.

This year's 90% coat is definitely thinner and does not have the hood that last year's did, but that may not mean it's sacrificing warmth.  I don't know as I haven't had the chance to hunt with it yet.  I do know I hunted 50+ times last year after getting my Sitka stuff and it held up like iron.  (By the way, I have an extra 90% coat, different size, that I barely wore last year if anyone wants last year's model).

Yes, the Traverse pants should go over the core layers.  This year's Traverse pants are really impressive (I haven't had them out yet, but just in wearing around the house).  I've never worn a pair of pants that allowed such freedom of movement.  Pretty incredible.

I have ordered the Celsius bibs (and Nimbus rainwear) so I am as anxious as everyone else to see how they perform (haven't arrived yet) in cold weather.  Sitka's got an iron-clad guarantee and a lot of attention to detail in what they make.

I just received this year's Sitka Gear last week.  It really looks good.  I wore my Sitka last weekend while filming Larry Yien (also a Pro-Staffer) for his part in Masters Of The Barebow, Vol. 3.  I love the stuff!  It's light weight, quiet, versatile, fits well and looks good.

I haven't received my Celsius gear yet.  I don't know about you but I get cold sitting late season treestands. I'm anxious to try the new celsius line this fall.

The Ascent pants are vastly improved from the heavy originals.  I just wore them at freezing temps last week along with a 90% jacket but could have used a bit more at those temps but it quickly warmed up.

Guru

Bow bender, I'm pretty sure if you wear your Traverse against your skin, you'll be a lot warmer.

At least that's what I found with last years gear. Haven't put any of the '08 gear thru it's paces yet. But as much as I liked last year's gear, the '08 gear is improved in many ways!

Well, the only piece of Celsius line I have worn so far is the hat.  If it is any indication of the rest of the Celsius line, we are in GREAT shape.  That little sucker is WARM!  I just got back from 8 days of mule deer hunting at 9000' and one more thing I can add is that silver stuff they put in the base layer really works.  No stink...

Steve H is very right about the new pants...they are lighter and have 4 way stretch; you can really feel the difference.

sounds like some good gear! can someone advise me on the best place to get it?

Never used the celcius line, but the 90% line is very good for moving around or hunting mild temps, but it is NOT at all warm (not even a little) so don't expect to stand hunt in it if the temps are under 35 (and even then, you'd have to layer considerably).

I love the stuff, at least what I've tried so far, but why did they do away with the cargo pockets on the pants!!!! The new thigh pockets are nothing more than little zippered slots that you can hardly get a glove into.

I agree that this stuff alone is not for sitting in a cold stand. Stuff is still sized quite small - I am a 36" waist, which is supposed to be their size large (36-38"), but when I tried on a pair of large 90% pants last weekend at Lancaster Archery, I couldn't get them much past my knees (unfortunately they did not have any XL to try). Vest and jackets are also sized small. They did appear to make the inseam shorter (32") on the regulars, which is a welcomed change. My Mountain Pants were a good 4" too long, and I am not a short person by any standard.
