The last couple of years have been a bust for beechnuts here in southeastern NH.  Well, "baby, the rain must fall," as it has in this wettest of years.  We've had weeks and weeks of thunderstorms and downpours.  Coupled with a very snowy winter,  we have already reached our normal yearly precipitation.

The sun finally came out this week. I went scouting this morning and found a squirrel busy harvesting a beech tree.  There was an absolute shower of nuts and shells raining down on my head.  I looked up with binoculars -- there are so many nuts, the trees look like olive trees.

Just what I didn't want to hear Charlie!

Should work well for you early season.Good luck!

I'll have to find some bears with a sweet tooth.

Well, at least they'll go into their dens in good shape for next year.       :D     And it will be good for cub production:   " Alternate Year Beechnut Production And Its Influence On Bear And Marten Populations "

I'm busy trying to figure out where the new standing water is and how it will affect deer movement.  And there's still running water in places where I haven't seen it usually except during the spring melt.

Thanks for the link. Interesting read.

I've found as long as the standing water isn't too extensive or deep and the weather is still warm it doesn't change their patterns much.
The splashing water is a good alarm clock for those warm afternoons on stand.

i hope to find the same in my area this weekend. i would rather set up on a good bunch of beeches then anything else, have allways had good luck when there is a good beech mast.
