Hey all you Mi hunters, I've been reading and hearing a lot lately about the wild/feral hogs in Michigan. I saw a map on the DNR website that showed lots of sightings and killings, there was also an article in my uncle's farming magazine title "KILL THEM". The state has issued a "shoot on sight" for all hogs seen in Michigan.

Has anyone seen/killed any of these things in MI? I really want to hunt hogs and doing it in my own state would be awsome!
We have land up by Custer off US-10 and apparently there's a few up there.  :)
Any info anything would be great, sharing is caring!  :D
Here's a couple links to maps and such...

Good luck finding some. I looked about every weekend from January to March, covered a lot of the areas the girl for the DNR told me there were hogs and never even cut a track. I also called Jay's, Frank's and any bait&tackle or gun stores from Beaverton to Standish down to Midland and they didn't know of any hogs being shot. I think the DNR is over estimating numbers

I've only heard of two being shot and that was during firearms when they got pushed out. I agree that the estimates are off. I have yet to see one in the area shown to have them near me.
Just one more step please!

I have hunted for about ten years up in the Manistee National Forest in Branch and walked and drove many many miles and I have never seen a track or any trace of pigs up in that area.  I heard the rumors too but I have not seen any up by Custer.  I don't know pigs very well but I would guess our winters would take a heavy toll on the population.  Just a guess tho.

WidowEater

ive seen two on the hoof and one a friend shot.  This was in Montcalm county 2 years ago when there was a bounty on them.

Even though Ive seen a few I agree that the actual numbers are misrepresented.  MI just doesnt want them in the state and are doing all they can to eradicate them before they take over.  For all I know the ones I saw had escaped from the local hog farm a few miles off. (most likely)

I wouldnt really mind if they took over myself as I like to hunt anything there is a season for.  I do understand the concern though.  I didi read the the article about them in that farm newspaper your talking about.  There seems to be a lot of hype.

Just remember you need a hunting lisence to shoot them.  I suppose that includes a small game tag as well.
Silence over speed.  Heavier arrows never hurt.

Had one shot in a town about half hour from my house, I think they probably escaped from a local game farm as well. I have never seen any or any of my buds in our hunting or driving around.
