What causes a riser to crack at the arrow shelf? A takedown I made for myself has developed a crack at the belly side of the arrow shelf and I'd like to know how to prevent it in the future.
Thanks! Mike

Pictures always a help. If it's where the shelf and window meet then could be not radiused etc. Could be bad wood stress over time etc. I have fixed a few with water thin CA no accelerator and let it wick in. Don't always work tho.

A good radius is critical in that area.  I have usually cut ou a crescent and fit a replacement piece in eliminating the crack.
Haven't had one in sometime now.  Mocking on wood

Here is a pic. The crack is directly above the deepest part of the riser in the arrow shelf. The wood is dymondwood. The shelf has a radius. Is there somewhere else that needs a radius?

We are referring to a radius where the window meets the shelf not the back to belly radius.  Shame that is a nice looking riser

Take shelf and window p.ate off to see how big the Crack is. Sand it off and blow it out real good. Wick some water thin CA in may take a couple of times to get it full. Let it cure with no accelerator. Shoot it keep an eye on it. May or may not work.

Nature of the beast with diamond wood. The shape of the shelf hanging over and it being so thin in that section isn't helping either. Often times changes in humidity levels can have an influence. Storing it in a place where it gets too warm can cause it too.

It happens... follow Crooked stick# recommendation and it should be fine.
