I'm just about to book my first personal plains game hunt for this July and was looking for bow/arrow setup feedback from those who've done it.

Currently I have a 54lb Hoyt Satori shooting 500gr arrows. Will this be enough arrow at this setup or should I punch closer to 600gr? Also, is 54lbs enough for everything from warthog up to eland and zebra?

Lastly, what would the recommended minimum draw / arrow weight be for giraffe? I'm on the fence about going for one but might bring a second heavier setup if I do.

Thanks!

Hello again Nick.

Your setup is just fine.  Even the eland can and is taken cleanly with less draw weight.  Your arrow weight is likewise good. If you're shooting well now, I wouldn't mess with adding arrow weight. If it gives you more confidence than you might add arrow weight, but not really necessary

As for the giraffe, you might seriously consider a bow drawing close to 90# and an arrow of 1,000 grains. Much more difficult to take than many think.  However, there are varying opinions about the draw and arrow weights.  You might be ok with a draw weight around 80.  BUT, you need to make absolutely sure that you can shoot a heavier draw weight accurately more than anything.
