Saw a post over on Powwow and got me thinking about a quieter string.

Seems like somewhere in the cobwebs I read about someone mixing string materials and having a hybrid string of FF and B50 .

Anybody heard of this?

I've heard of it but never tried it.  Make one and let us know.

Tried it once, added a couple strands of B55 to some D97 but didn't notice enough difference to continue playing around with it. Might try some B55 and Merc2 to see if that combo works any better. Seems like adding a full length damper would quiet it down some.

I kinda thought the same, but you are adding weight that may not do all that much , so don't know.

I was kinda hoping Mike would make one and tell me...

I think bearpaw wisper strings are a blend of different string material.

no just saw a ad saying they were years ago.

I've heard about that too but testing many strings lately I can't imagine a blend of b50 with a high performance string could be stable or quieter for that matter- bow design and proper silencers would trump that- Maybe 100% dyneema mixed with that and ventral maybe. B50 is quiet followed by the original fast flight spectra 652, then dynaflight 97 and then a mercury two

My thought was the ff would be packing all the load and the dacron would just add weight since the dacron stretches? So slow your bow down, hence quieter?

Using rubber cat whiskers is the solution to the problem IMO. Using B-50 or B-55 is like using a rubber band for a string compared to FF and it flushes too much performance down the tube IMO.

But with a mix I think the FF would carry the load and mitigate the stretch, and the B-50 would slow things down a bit... It just might work taking some of the higher pitch tone out of it... Never heard of anyone trying it.

Ask Rob Distephano our Mod here... He builds a lot of his own strings. Maybe he has played with this...

I just sent a message to my string builder to see if he has tried it .... i'll let ya know.

Hey Kenny,  my string builder just got back to me this am on the use of B55 with FF string to quiet things down. He uses 4 strands of B55 in the loops of his Flemish strings to take the twang out of FF string material. But he went on to say that it will not work full length due to the elasticity differences.

Come to think of it....... I've heard of others using it for loop padding in endless loop strings, but I never associated it with noise dampening.     Kirk

Ha- I pad the loops with b55 because its cheaper, didn't know it would be quieter!!

I accidentally used d97 and b55 once. Never could get it to twist right until I figured out what I did and matched the d97. I agree though if you did get it twisted right the d97 would be doing all the work as it does stretch as much.
