The spine tester was made with a digital dial indicator from Amazon for 25 dollars, a scrap piece of tongue and groove, and some 3/8 carriage bolts, nuts, washers. Less than 30 dollars and less than an hour putting it together and tweaking it.

Sick ive been collecting enough rose shoots that ive been needing just this.  Thanks for sharing

Haha that's what's I've been doing this past month too! I cut about 50 rose shoots and 50 dogwood shoots. I want to get a good hunting set for deer season.

as far as complication goes, I think I went the other way on my setup.  It is flexible and reliable though, so I'm happy with it!

doubles as a spin/deflection gauge if you like making your own wood shafts though, which is a plus .

Now take that spine tester and check your carbon shafts and rotate them 90 degrees at a time. On some of the economy shafts you will be shocked how much difference there is from one shaft to the next, and how much difference you read just rotating them too.

Guys always assume most of these carbon shafts are closely matched....Wrong!!!
Some are worse than woodies....   .02 cents worth...

Btw.... Great idea for a cheap spine tester!    Kirk
