Going to give a laminated hybrid a try with much help from Cory (heartlandbowyer). Picked up a nice piece of walnut and had some leftover padouk from when he made me a bow awhile back. It's going to be padouk I beam with walnut on the outside and walnut veneers. The padouk wasn't long enough for the riser so Cory had the idea of a splice that would show in the sight window. Personally I was going to hide the splice in the lower limb section, but Cory pushed on and after getting it spliced I'm glad we did. I'll start with this for now and try an post as we go along. One picture will be of my ugly mug just to prove I did at least make one cut   :D   The wife probably wont be to happy since I'll probably be at Cory's every chance I get for awhile. Shooting for a 62" bow around 52# Dave

Heck yeah I like the splice idea.  Good luck with the rest of it.

Here's the progress for today, have a birthday party to go to this afternoon so I'll be bugging Cory again tomorrow after work  :D  Cory's making one on the same form and probably doing his glue up tonight or tomarrow which works great for me to kinda do a monkey see monkey do. Sure is nice to have someone like Cory a couple houses down to stop me before I do something that makes me say AW CRAP! Layout is going to be starting with the back black glass, carbon, core, core, core, walnut, clear glass. Dave

Being the proud owner of one of Cory's bows (this year's swap), I'd say he knows what he's doin' and your bow is gonna turn out great.  I like the wood combo and that splice is going to be real unique.

Back on track, Had dinner with Cory and family last night and afterwords we kept looking at the glue up ready to go and said what the heck. Next thing ya know it's 11 o'clock at night and there's a bow in the oven. This morning Bonnie kept looking at me funny and finally said, get out of here and go work on your bow. Think I'll just post a few pics of the last two days as there isn't much need to explain for the most part. As you will see the splice in the sight window came out pretty neat. Cory sure knows his stuff! Tomorrow we should pretty much finish it up except for finish. Can't thank Cory enough for the help and expertise. Dave

Didn't get pictures of cutting and sanding the limbs down, I think Cory was in changing a diaper at that point    :biglaugh:

Not sure how many pics you can put in one post so I'll start another.

That splice did come out cool looking! Nice looking bow so far.

Cory got some veneers from Troy and he was kind enough to let me put a pair into this bow!

That spalted walnut is cool.

Strung profile

Full draw

Thanks for looking, Dave.

A couple more things to mention, during this whole process the tiller was never off by more than an 1/8" and as we thinned up the limbs abit the bottom did pull to one side but a few strokes of a file from Cory and she lined right up. The bow as it sits is running around 60# but we still want to trap the back and final sanding. I was hoping for low to mid 50's and looks like we'll get pretty darn close. Dave

I love the side profile at brace. Was that a form Heartland had or did you and he come up with it? Btw, great job.

mwosborn

Very nice Dave.  I love the looks of that at full draw!
