Well I got everything glued up. Backing looked good and now the handle and tips are curing. Will pull the clamps off tomorrow and start to shape the tips and handle. Then will see how the initial tiller looks. Glad you got your bow Goob, I feel awful for my recipient, can't wait to get this one done and sent to him.

Been working hard at getting work caught up so I can dedicate a few days to finishing this week. Will update with photos as it progresses.

Yeah, Goobersan got his bow. But he didn't tell you the tip was broken off!

After all that waiting he can't even shoot it yet...

I told him to send it back and I'd repair it. Man, I felt badly enough about being late. Now the top tip is broken off in shipping.

Can you believe this guy (Goobersan) is still excited about getting a bow and has been so thankful.

We'll get it right for you, Josh.   :deadhorse:

Roy from Pa

Gooberboy is a pretty cool dude. I guess:)

and no worries Red

Spent several hours on bow #2 today. Raised a splinter at 19", going to try and repair and back it. I think Kenny will be getting a call for #3 backup supplies.

WOW!!!! Thats All I can say! I can't tell you what I had to do to get the bow from the post office ... Gonna plead the 5th on that one. (slight mishap with addresses ... seems it got sent to my old address ... no big deal though all worked out)

Anyway, Just got my bow from JTBlueFeather and it's a very nice Bamboo backed ipe with some mild R/D. I scaled it at just about 43# @ my 25" draw length which is just perfect. John also sent it with a nicely amde string ... feels like B-50 or maybe B-55 with some nice string silencers. Horn overlays with little walnut? accents. Overall a really nice bow that I'm very happy to own. I usually cut all my bows in with shelves, this one is not cut which is actually great because I've been wanting to do some shooting off the hand and now I have the perfect bow to do it with.

John did a nice split leather handle wrap which is great, palm swella dn grip are perfect for my hand. Couldn't be happier and a big thanks to John, keep up the good work and keep making those bows.

OH! Yeah .... did I mention .... John also included a BEAUTIFUL knife in the box also!!!!!

I was confused at first because when I opened the tube it was wrapped up, and this heavy 8" log of bubble wrap fell out on the floor with a thud  ..... I'm thinking what the heck is that!?
When I saw that knife I almost couldn't believe it. An absolute dandy needing as much praise as the bow. Judging by the makers mark being a feather I assume this is one of John's originals.

Looks to be about 9-10" overall length, 4.5-5" blade with a slight curvature along the back of the blade and a slight drop point. Knife scales are cocobolo! The tang of the blade is beautifully notched along the back, and the pins are beautfully done in brass and surrounded by very impressive brass inlay work. This is a real piece of art up there with the finest knives I've laid my hands on.

Anyway, Let me say againe, the most sincere of thanks to you John. These are two beautiful pieces you've sent me, either one is more than I could have ever expected. I'll post photos after work today .... I'm already LATE!

P.S. John I also found your letter. Thanks again it means alot. The wait was well worth it, besides family always comes first.

Latest progress, right/top limb is longer. Just raised a large splinter that I'm going to attempt a repair and back with woven glass and smooth-on.

LittleBen

Looks like the splinter popped right where the grain runoff was ...

Might be fatal, glass cloth might work but also might cause the hickory belly to crush.

SportHunter

I'm open to suggestions on saving this. It popped but didn't continue or get worse even with unstringing. I saw the grain run off but this thing is a horse at 52#@19" so far. It's pignut hickory.

Hoping good glue and some backing might do the trick. What about a hickory backing strip or rawhide etc?

LittleBen

If it were me I'd be inclined to sand the back flat or plane it flat, in the process removing some of that splinter and use a really straight grained hickory backing strip.

No experience with rawhide so can't comment.

Glue may or may not hold ... I probably wouldn;t risk it

jtbluefeather871

I'm glad you finally got it Ben!  Sorry 'bout the address mix up.  Glad you like the knife, too!  I know you've made some sweet BBI's in the past, so if you have any hints or tips for my next attempt, feel free to PM me and let me know.

Sport, I'm nclined to agree with Ben. A wrap might work but if you have a strip of hickory for a backing, that's what I'd use. That hickory does look nice. Squirt the crack full of super glue and back it.
Good luck!

My Hickory Pyramid is starting to bend nicely. Putting some late night hours into it and will hopefully be shooting it this weekend. Mix of heartwood and latewood throughout so there is some nice color in this bow.
