I love those tips, Longbowhunter! What are they stuck on with? Very interesting bow...

SportHunter

Really nice bow longbowhntr! Great job, super skinny tips, tons of character.

Kevin H. & Longbowhntr, great job on both bows....Dan

I've made good progress on my trade bow. The tillering is coming right along. It is following the string some which I expected and acctually intended, but I'm trying to keep it under a certain amount.

I will try to get some pics up soon. I slimmed down the tips some. They were too thick and heavy and looked slow. Now they are alot sleeker.

Those tips are toooooooooo cool   :)

razorback

Finally getting some good time on my bow. Was looking good and even, with one limb seeming to be a little stiffer than the other. Then I strung it to a low brace 4-5" and one limb is much stronger than the other.
Any suggestions on where to remove wood from would be appreciated. It is a birch board backed with thin hickory.

Razorback, the last picture says it all. You need to leave the left limb alone close to the fade, and get the midlimb bending. The right limb looks pretty good but it will be a lot stronger than the left by the time you get rid of that hinge. A tillering gizmo is a huge help.
Don't know how I got here and don't know where i'm going, but life is grand.

razorback

Thanks 1025vs, I have a gizmo and have only been working the outer third. That hinge was a little surprise. I will work the outer third some more and reduce the over all weight on the right limb. Will be a fun way to spend some dad day time.

Appreciate the compliments on the bow it was fun to build.

The tips are buffalo horn glued on with smooth on epoxy. "Boswell" pushed me to make the tips that skinny. (those are the smallest tips I have made so far but I will be making some more)

Hope the bow shoots well for ...

Well here is where I am at.

Let me know what you see. I have thinned the handle some. Heck I might even start shooting tomorrow. It is about 45# at 28" just a bit light. I will see where it is at after some shooting I think.

Boswell

Longbowhntr,
I think your back nocks are still too big, take them down by about 1/2 and you will have a good looking tip. HA HA HA HA Looks Good!

I flipped the tips on my trade bow the other night. Looks good other than it looks like the tips took a little twist. Im gonna have to get that fixed before I can get it strung again.

Thanks
Boswell

Sweet looking bows guys.  I love setting back and watching all of them take shape.

Great looking bow longbow

longbowhntr

Funny Boswell!

What are you calling a "little twist" anyway?  :p

The pics you sent looked good. Looks like it will be good shooter.

Thanks D!! All the bows are looking real good.

I second that longbow every single bow I have seen on this years swap has been just awsome.

Steven Russell

Dang!  I was just unstringing the vine maple bow that I'm making and a few strands of the string caught an edge of the groove and pulled down into bow.  To prevent absolute disaster, I had to yell for my wife while I kept the bow partially bent and she cut the string.  So do I glue it and add a tip overlay?  Do I go back to my backup (an osage longbow)  Decisions, decisions.

And just to make it more interesting, I've started having shoulder issues that make it impossible to even draw a bow.  I've got an appointment this week with an orthopedic doc and will see what he says.

Life always keeps it interesting it seems.

Steven, pics will really help with suggestions. It could be as simple as recutting the string groove.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!
