Stihl or husqvarna both are excellent saws.  I have cut a lot of wood with my stihl.  Like any saw a sharp blade is a must.  Pick the one with the closest service.  IMO    ;)

Finally summered the strength to get out of bed after this stupid crippling flu!

Roy that is a good looking bow, and that East Indian rosewood looks much better than that green plywood ya were using a while back.

charles, check out what the fallers are using. up here we run our saws with 36" and 42" bars on 'em.
big trees up here- and in the old days when men were men they used to run the old stihl 090 with a 6' bar and two powerheads on.
we have cedar up here that is still 6 - 11' at the stump, i think our biggest spruce here is 17' but will have to just verify that- but i have personbally seen them in the 10 to 12' range.
the fallers here swear by them both, and its all personal. what i do notice though is that all the young bucks love the stihl- faster , maybe slightly tougher machines- maybe!!- i run a stihl, and the company i work for only runs stihl, however a lot of the older fallers are switching over to husky- better vibration dampers- kinder on the hands- dont get "white finger" as much.
good luck
ps. learn a little about falling a tree- befor you go out there and hurt/kill yourself.
i know of a lot of dead fallers!!!!!!!
it happens so quick.
pm me if you need some more info- would be glad to help!!

DVS used to have a pic of a giant pile we made about this time last year, when he had a bunch of us over. Maybe if he still has it he can post it. If not, ill try and dig up the thread he posted it on.

yer crazy ol' Roy!! :scared:

yup, i just think us older fellas are just a tad smarter.
but i like my stihl- cos thats what i got- but i run both quiet happily.
the truly scary thing- is watching some of those horror videos of guys falling trees- and wondering how they lived long enough to post the video.
the ol' saying" fools rush in where angles fear to tread!!" comes to mind.
but i geuss it keeps people in the running for the Darwin awards

I would like to see that picture  :D

Oh here it is. Seemed bigger right after making it  I was a tired dude. It had been my first experience with chasing rings. I had blisters on top of blisters.

That's a nice pile of shavings. I've popped a couple blisters a little bit ago myself. Sure is fun though.

Slaved over the hot sander and bandsaw most of the day.

Then put some cool silencers on my new bow. Oops, did I say new bow?  :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Got a BBO to 27.5 on the tree today, have it stained and first coat of tung oil on it. Riser is not shaped yet in these pictures.

Ah Kenny,
We need pics.

Thanks every one for sharing your thoughts.  I am going to look at the husqvarna today after doing some more research.  I am sure that is what I will get.

really neat tree!!
even nicer bow!!!!

It looks like a gizmo above a bolt for sticking in those holes when he wants to hold it at full draw on the tree?

I guess it's ok, Kenny:)

Wayne, monkeyboy was right. I have holes drilled into the tree for every draw length inch, I stick that long bolt into a hole, pull the bow string down and hook it under the bolt, then run my gizmo on the belly side of the limbs looking for thick spots. There is a pencil in the gizmo that marks the thick spots, then all I gotta do is scrape off some wood where the pencil lines appear on the limbs belly.
