say, how do you guys keep getting hold of tamboti- i know it is a protected tree in south africa- it was cut widely for fence posts because the poisen in the wood kills the termites- so it is pretty scarce nowdays, and hence protected.
just curious.
one thing for sure i have seen and felt first hand the effects of tamboti- and i would not be having it in my shop- i have seen the sawdust kill dogs, that licked up some of the dust.
the smoke alone will give you splitting headaches and nausea. etc etc

anyway not getting on your case fish- it has just sparked my curiosity- as i have seen 2 references on this forum in as many weeks.
none the less it is a beautiful wood, albeit very oily.

I believe both references have been by me. I posted the scales input on my knife last week and they were Tamboti. I get it from woodcraft not far from my house. I appreciate your info Wayne as I had no idea about that until you said something, so thanks. It is a gorgeous wood but not worth my life and especially not my dog's. I will be sure to take better precautions.

But Jason! That Bocote is sooo purty!

DVS, is there a pic of the rest of that bow!

I had to remove the rawhide from the osage bow I'm working on. Cleaned up the bow, degreased it and cut some bear rawhide and degreased that too although it didn't seem too greasy.

It is now glued on and waiting.

Tillered a couple out to 20" today both are around 50 ish at 20" I figure one of the four I been working will be my swap bow.

Tommarrow I'm gonna put some rawhide insurance on a piece of osage that I'm working. I think it would it be alright but there is a spot that is kinda iffy so I figure a thin rawhide backing will give me some piece of mind.

Did some research on supplies from the big auction site. Anyone had luck with a guy selling bbi kits for around $40

razorback-
I don't know anything of the seller you mention, but I like to stick with guys I've known a long time that hang out here. Then again, I usually find everything I need at MOJam every year.  :)  Keep asking questions though!

Razor I looked into the same guy a year or so back and decided not to take the chance. Post something over in the classifieds and something will turn up.

Like Tom said I would rather deal with guys here that are better known.

Dave I take pics once in a while but I have to drive to town to get a good enough internet signal to upload pics.

Sucks living all the way out here in the sticks LOL (Not really) I'll get some pics up soon for you    :D

Finished that knife.  Now on to that silly osage twig that has been sitting in the corner for about 4 months...

Damnit...sat down and tied up a dozen clousers before bowling last couple nights and now I have the itch to get going on a bow.  Gonna be above freezing this week so I can get out in the shop and get things marked out and ready to go I guess....this is a good motivational thread.

Thanks for the input guys. This is why I asked here first and didn't just jump in and buy something. I may take one for the team and get a kit from him at some point and let everyone on here know. He may be very reputable and sell good stuff. Will have to try at some point and find out. They can't all be bad, can they.

Anyway got some cherry staves I have to work on first.

Dmikeyj:  How much reflex did you put in the glue up and how long is it?

Goose, I just used 2x4 sideways for the reflex, so 3.5" I guess.
It is going to be 70" ttt before I add the horn nocks.  I am going for 70" ntn.

Today I finished up a 17 hour night shift and then drawknifed the bark and sapwood off of some osage staves until I was about to drop.  I wish the sapwood on osage was 1/4" thick.
