Riser block was glued up by Bodork.  Kingwood w/zebra flair.  Chuck Deshler donated the veneers.  Kenny M donated the fiberglass.
 

When I had my Osprey form machined, I had him machine a jig to profile the riser back.

I have always lined my form with 1/8" firm rubber, not only to protect the form but to allow some "give" where the tapered lams are between the riser block and the form.  I get a perfect glue joint everytime.
 

I mark the fade outs with a template and cut them out with the bandsaw.  Bodork reinforced this riser with black fiberglass.  Without a carbide blade on the saw I just used a half worn out blade as I knew the FG would trash the blade.  When the blade hit the fiberglass, as expected the sparks flew. Instead of cutting through the fiberglass at an angle the blade deflected and wanted to follow the edge of it.  Luckily, I wasn't putting too much pressure on it and didn't ruin the riser block.  It was close though.

Fade outs feathered, ready for epoxy.  Freezer paper protects the workbench.


Cheap electrical tape (60 cents per roll)  hold everything in place until pressure is applied.  65 psi

Slack belt works well for rounding edges.


Peeling the tape off is one of the sweet rewards for working with nice veneers.

Lastly, just for fun. This is the mason putting a course of block for the 12 x 22" addition onto my shop.  Soon I will have room for a separate spray booth.    


The bow will be mailed out to Apex Predator tomorrow for the completion.  CHAD wanted a 60" bow, 53-55#.  It is at 54.5# @ 28" now.  With final sanding it should hit the mark at 54# dead nuts.

Since I'm in my picture taking mode, here is a couple other pictures.
Taken outside my shop, in the yard.  Two hens and 13 youngins.


I work by myself so much in the shop it gets lonely at times, so I created "Wilson" to keep me company.    

Allright guys, it's my turn now.  First thing was preparing some overlays.  I thought zebra and black glass was the obvious choice!  Here is the riser, the pieces laid out, and then glued on.







I also talked to Chad and got some idea of what he wanted for grip shape.  Seems he likes this one, so I think I have enough riser to work this grip without adding overlays to the belly.  I was dreading the overlays, so I am relieved!

Here are the overlays starting to blend.  Worked a while on the tips this morning.  I've got company coming in today to hunt the weekend, so I probably won't get any more done until Monday.  Bear with me Chad!

Did you get the silencers Marty? When you put them on wrap them real tight, holding the yarn back as you wrap so that you can see the edge of the ribbon, then make the next wrap over the edge of the ribbon of the preceding wrap. If you wrap them this way they will be real tight and compact, making a neat little puffball. does that make sense? I've been meaning to make a video of it, i suppose i should finally do it.
