Very nice, and if the meat was not salvagable than your conservation dept. would most likely replace your tag, they do in NY. Shawn

Shaun,  That is a cool story, way to start out your Thanksgiving.  I need some help though, I can find the buck in the 2nd picture.

Shaun

Stickbowshooter, the buck is laying down in the center of the picture. There is a log about 1/4 of the way up from the bottom of the pic. Look for a horizontal line over this.. there is a light brown oval of the buck's body with the butt to the right. Above the log is visible half the deer's head, looking away with one ear and one antler in the open. See it? Its amazing how close you can get to bedded deer and not see them. Antlers are more visible than bodies. Flat horizontal lines or ovals in the woods are easier to pick out than whole deer shapes.

Shaun

Not much special effects in Microsoft photo but I put a "smudge" around the deer in this picture. His butt is to the right and haed with ear and one antler on the left.

Shaun,

I don't know the game laws of Iowa.  However, in Arkansas if you fill your tag on a deer and it's meat is inedible the Game and Fish will (under normal circumstances) grant you another tag.  You might be pleasantly surprised if you notify the Game and Fish of the condition of the buck.

BTW Big thumbs up on a great story, awesome stalk/sneak attack and a good buck!

Enjoyed it bud...congrats!!!  I once shot a turkey that was inedible due to an infection in the breast....our DEC gave me another tag due to my other bird being "unfit for human consumption"...worth looking in to...
