I'm thinking of skinning my limb backs on a hunting bow.  I hunt often and try to take care of my gear but life happens.  Would lambskins be a more practical approach to real snakeskin or are snakeskins fairly durable on a bow back?

I have found them to be durable.It might depend on who installs them though.I think as long as their glued down meticulously from end to end and from side to side (especially the edges) with no bubbles,air pockets or creases your good.Finish is also applied to the surface just like a regular bow limb without skins.So that helps make the skin itself more durable.

I've used snake skins on wood bows for years and never had a problem with their durability...and I'm rough with my bows.

As long as they are finished correctly, they will last. I still have a bow that I skinned from 1989 that is going strong.

I skinned my recurve limbs and they've held up fine.  Quite a few years now I did 'em myself.  I think it would be all in the prep and finishing of the job.  I had one little edge raise on me after a few years and little dab of super glue fixed that.  Haven't noticed any other spots.
