ahab78 thank you for your service.

I just read an article that stated a HIIT workout 3 times a week with a full body weight training workout 2 times a week may just be the ultimate workout routine. Your workout seems to be a HIIT program. Us older guys over 40 begin to loose muscle and need the weights as well.

I would like a little more clarification on the 8 count bodybuilder ladder 5-1 if possible, you can PM me if you like. Thanks

I am thinking your first workout on Monday, then a full body weight workout (look on the net)Tuesday. Your second workout on Wednesday, full body weight on Thursday. Fri your first workout again or some other HIIT workout to mix it up. I am older so I am going for the whole weekend off.

Thanks for the suggestion comes at a good time. I was trying to come up with a HIIT routine.

That'll do it.  Hunting isn't all that strenuous -- even in rough terrain.  For me, I stay in shape to keep from sweating or overexerting too much going from place to place so I don't stink it up.

Mine routine is pretty simple.  Run 3x per week.  Work up to 10-15+ miles on the weekends.  Do at least one 20 +/- mile trail run in the mountains during the summer, preferably a month before the season opens.  Yosemite is a beautiful place to run and gets me used to high elevations.  Mix in some backpacking for fun.  That's pretty much overkill for hunting just a few miles in but it keeps me in shape.  I get to see some awesome country in the meantime.

My wife got me doing a little yoga, too.  It helps my back & upper-body strength.  I show up to a class once a week & let the little girls show me just how tough I really am.  It's way tougher than the Krav Maga class I was taking!

I stick to my air force training. Run 1.5 miles once a yr. Works for me.

:biglaugh:   Nice!

Don't forget to "carbo-load" before and after with a good malt & hops beverage.        :biglaugh:

You all had the best duty stations, barracks and chow halls I have been to.  I keep telling my boys to skip the Army and go straight to the USAF.

We were always jealous of your workout "program".

X2 What Mike said.  I was an Army Instructor and trained the Air Force Reserve from NJ to get them ready for the Nellis AFB Silver Flag Alpha Desert Warfare School.

I tell my Grandson the same Mike. Go Air Force

For clarification on how to do the ladder:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxQT-wZdP28

See the video above for how to do an 8 count. Both the 8 count and burpee work every muscle in your body and burn a ton of cals and give you incredible endurance.

To do both ladders:
1) 5 8 Counts (or Burpees)
2) Walk or Sprint or Bear Crawl 25 yards
3) 4 8 Counts (or Burpees)
4) Walk or Sprint or Bear Crawl 25 yards
5) 3 8 Counts (or Burpees)
6) Walk or Sprint or Bear Crawl 25 yards
7) 2 8 Counts (or Burpees)
8) Walk or Sprint or Bear Crawl 25 yards
9) 1 8 Counts (or Burpees)
10) Walk or Sprint or Bear Crawl 25 yards

Hope that helps.

Take what you want from this and make your own regimen to fit your own needs. I would incorporate running into the routine if you plan on bear hunting!

No, Possum Head. I think the pull ups and chin ups would help with the tree stand hunting, especially -- God forbid -- you had a slip or a fall.
