Removing inserts

I received some Easton Axis Trads, with the 75gr inserts already "glued in".
I have tried heat to the point I burned the end of one shaft, no luck.
I tried putting a steel pin into the shaft then slamming the shaft down, to "hammer it out".
No luck....

Any other suggestions??

Instead of hammering, did you try slinging it? What has worked for me is putting a drill bit in the shaft, sticking the nock back in. Raising the arrow up over my head letting the bit slide back to the nock. Then slinging the snot out of it in a downwards motion. Make sure to do it outside, away from everything and everybody...when it works, everything shoots outa there like a bullet.

I tried the slinging as well no luck!

I would like to remove/replace them with the standard insert

The few times I have tried it, there was always one or two that took a LOT of slamming with the drill bit. Most came out fairly easy, but one or two always gave me fits. If those inserts were put in with epoxy, they should come out. If they used something like JB Weld, maybe not???

I have tried almost every shaft in the dozen, with the slinging technique. Nothing!

My guess is JB weld was used....

Hmm...I guess if I was in your predicament, I'd just put them on the classifieds and hope somebody was looking for that exact setup. Sorry I couldn't offer more advise. Drill bit method always worked for me. I'm shooting aluminum with hot melt now cause it's just SO much easier.

They probably used the HIT insert epoxy and being that they are further down in the shaft they will be very difficult to remove if not impossible.Just sell them and buy new shafts and put the insert you want.If they haven't come out by now you will probably destroy the arrow trying to get them out?

I would ask the same question asked earlier, "why do you need to remove them?"

Could you possibly shorten them a bit from the nock end in order to use the heavier insert?

You might try putting putting one in the freezer overnight,then sling with your drill bit.Gunsmiths use the freezer when an epoxy bedded action gets stuck.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions!
I have a shaft in the freezer right now, and will try the "sling technique" on a frozen insert in the morning.

The reason I want them out is b/c I really want to shoot 250gr Abowyer Wapiti heads this season. I have other BH configurations I can build/make with the current 75gr inserts to reach the total goal of 250 upfront. However, Larry Hannify is a good friend of mine, (plus my neighbor), and I would really like to shoot his BH's.

Well......I tried the freezer idea. Froze the arrow overnight. Early this morning, with a head full of optimism, I took the shaft out, dropped in the drill bit, and started "slinging"!
20 times, I "slung" the drill bit, the insert never budged...looks like I will be shooting my standard WW on these shafts.

Do the drill bit thing and tape a sock to the end of the shaft. You can get pretty agressive without the worry of the insert and bit taking off like a "missle" when it finally pops out.
