Went up to Canada with 2 buddies (I was the only trad) on a Bear hunt this past week and had a blast. I went with a new Outfitter by the name of Moose Mountain Outfitters and they were better than I could have asked for. It is a husband wife deal, He runs the baits and she cooks. Really well I might add. We arrived last friday around noon and got all situated. Things started off pretty fast as my buddy Gary shot one at 6:00 the first evening. I got blanked. I sat 11 hours saturday and only saw a Snowshoe hare and a few squirrels. Guy our outfitter said maybe we should go in at day light so I was up at 4:00 and in the stand by 5.   [/IMG]   [/IMG]   [/IMG]       [/IMG]   [/IMG]

I had been setting there for 35-40 minutes and was just opening up a muffin I had packed for a snack when I heard a huffing sound behind me on the trail I walked in on. I slowly turned to see what looked to be a pretty fair sized bear. He had his head down sniffing a pile of crap. At that moment I stood and got ready while he was preoccupied. Slowly he lumbered my way walking within 3 yards of my stand. He kept walking past straight away towards the barrel not giving a good shot angle. He made it to 10 yards and stopped to sniff where some coco had been spilled out on the ground. He then made a fatal mistake of taking a step to the right to smell another crap pile exposing his vitals. At that point everything went on auto pilot, the Tall Tines came back and the next thing I knew he was barreling away with the fletchings of a 2117 sticking out in just the right spot. He only went 30-40 yards and gave the death moan in less than 10 seconds. The autopsy revealed the Cutthroat went thru both lungs and sliced the heart sticking in the off side leg.

Man!  That's a beautiful bear.  Congrats!

After getting it skinned and quartered up we went and ran baits with the outfitter. Even had time to get in a little fishing. Fresh Canadian fish is about as good as it gets. All in all it was probably one of the better trips I've ever had. This was my first Outfitted hunt and it was a real pleasure.

Brushwolf, I gave the skulls to your dad to sick the beetles on. I told him I might have to slip up and check out those bows you've been building when I pick them up. By the way that auction bow was a beauty.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

Come up anytime we can do some shooting. Dad will do you a fine job on your skull.

Congratulations on the beautiful bear!  I love the photos.  I wish I was over there in Canada right now.  I would like to do a moose hunt up there some day.
