I need to decide on woods for my three piece longbow. I initially wanted his grey diamondwood riser with grey actionwood limbs but I already have a greybark black widow and I would love to have a bow made of zebra wood. Still might go the grey route but would like to see some.  Thanks for any help.

I have only ever seen a few on here and I think they were all with gray Dymondwood handles. Nice looking bows though and I hear they shoot great.

I've held one that was beautiful dark brown, and I've never heard anything but great reviews.

I looked at buying one a while back, but went local instead.

They are sharp bows.

I could be mistaken, but I think he only makes the 3 piece in Dymondwood.

I have two 2-piece black canyon & this 3-piece, I sold the three piece in a moment of dumbness, but was able to buy it back a year later. it will not be leaving again.
They are very forgiving and smooth bows.

I have 2 black canyon recurves and both have grey dymondwood risers.  This one has bocote limbs and I just got it last fall.  The bocote is quite stunning in person and Mike's workmanship is flawless.   I had Mike put an accent on the front of the riser and also a leather grip.

My other Black Canyon can be seen on an older thread titled New Bow-Black Canyon. I picked this one up used but it has cross cut actionwood limbs with the grey riser.  Click on this link and it will show you one with cross cut laminations.

Both of these bows are solid performers, very quiet and once I got them haven't even been tempted to get any other bows.

Glad you like it.  Tell Mike the types of woods you are considering and he will not steer you wrong.   Actually I was not even considering bocote at first but after speaking with him I found that he uses it a lot and personally I felt it is better to use what the bowyer feels most comfortable working with. I was certainly not disappointed when I opened the box from Mike and found that bow inside.

I had one of Mikes original longbows, it was very quick and easy to shoot..

No. Mine isnt due until January but I own a pool service company, and Im going bear hunting in June, and I fish several days a week all summer long, and then I bear and deer hunt a ton all fall, and I have a six month old girl.  So I figured Id better figure it all out early.

Oh, and I joined jerry russel's trad bow lease so I have an entire new property to scout too.

KentuckyTJ

Oh how this thread hurts my feelings. I sold mine and have kicked myself ever since.

The used bow that I have is the one that Tom sold.   I found it in the classifieds a week after I ordered the Bocote one shown above.  Couldn't pass up the deal and really glad I bought that one as you rarely see them for sale.

KentuckyTJ

What, you have two? Isn't that BC hoarding. Thats not fair Haha. I have cash money when its time to send her back home. Come on now Clay you know what the right thing to do is!

Yes I admit that I am BC hoarding.  I would send her back home to you but would feel bad having to charge you more than the original purchase price...haha

To be perfectly honest I don't know that much about Mike's bows and I don't intend to hijack this thread, but I know back in the day he was a pretty darn good shot. Sorry, but I could not resist posting this photo. A young Mike Hays on the right and a young your truly on the left. This was at a broadhead shoot in Timberon, NM back in the mid to late 80's I think.
