The fred bear bruin showed up today also.  I only got to shoot a Doz arrows a few min ago in 20 degree dark night shooting at 15yds under the street light. It is a nice bow. The limbs are 1 1/8 down to 9/16 but the tips are HUGE with all the overlays. It's 3 lams maple and draws real nice. I absolutly love the grip, very narrow.  Seems to shoot with good cast. Physical weight is heavier than others, but you can feel the weight in the tips when holding the bow. I would lie if I said no handshock , but its not painful , but it is present. Overall I'm happy I have it and have the opportunity to try it out.

Hang in there Kyle, we've all been there. Some days (not many) its the opposite, its like your invisible.

Heck, its still better than any day at work...'cept maybe payday.

Canopy B, Deer behavior like that is something I think we all experience. I know I have and you know what? It tends to irritate me enough to find a way to put an arrow in one. I don't always of coarse, but it's a good motivator.

By the way, they are mocking you. Said they had you patterned and were toying with you for the fun of it.

Haha.... I've said the same thing to myself numerous times. 'They're mocking me'....

I sounds mean but I'm glad I'm not the only one! ;-)

But I'm with you, it's getting personal now and I'm determined to put the whole lot of 'em in my freezer to get even.

Sadly our season has concluded. I've had a fun year with two in the freeze (one recurve one rifle). I have a wonderful place to hunt with plenty of deer thanks to a friend and with that, I have a great new year to look forward to next year!

You better start now... It is a mighty long one and it is getting longer and longer every hours!!
I love this thread, I just got my first Hill style longbow, and man I love it! I can see getting rid of my other bows to get an other one of these, it will be a string follow for sure, 70" 60"@29.... I should had take down on top of it all!!

I've got a bunch of nice bows on the rack and they just sit there jealous when I reach for my Hill style bows. Might have to thin the herd...

Overspined

I hunted hogs in FL with Tarponnut, and have a list of excuses why I didn't kill one with the Hill bow.  Jim did his job and put me on hogs, and we had a great time, which is most important of course.  Like anything we hunt, I chalk it up partly just to lack of experience and having no idea what to expect.  I had my opportunities....can't wait until next year though, I'll be ready.

There seem to be few visual similarities between hogs and deer, it was a real learning experience.  I recommend him for sure to anyone going to FL.  The last hog I saw, I watched for 20 min from a pop up blind at 15 yds, and never shot because I thought he'd come closer.  I found out I am NOT a pop up blind fan.  My depth perception was off and I swore it was 25 yds away.  Oh well.

Matt, glad you had a good time! There is a steep learning curve on the first trip to unfamiliar country to chase an unfamiliar animal. No excuse next time though    ;)

I'm not much of a pop-up guy either, there nice on a nasty day but otherwise I like hunting "outdoors"

Thanks Matt! Glad you enjoyed the hunt. We'll get 'em next time.

Nate Steen .

well,

I had a very good year with the longbow....

watched my cousin's boy shoot a nice bear on the ground with a longbow, backquiver, and Hill-tipped woodies....

shot more grouse for the freezer and campfire meals than I ever have before.....

had multiple close encounters with elk....

got a couple of shots at deer....one a perfect miss under the heart on a running fork horn...the other shot a perfect miss under the chest when the arrow hit a thistle branch...

and lots and lots of arrows shot for the pure joy of shooting an arrow from a longbow....

I for one, had a very good 2012, and am thankful for the health and opportunity to enjoy one of life's simple pleasures....

the song of the longbow, the graceful arc of full bent limbs akin to the new moon profile, and the hushed whisper of the feathered shaft flying through the air.......

Long live the longbow!   :)

Hey, on that theme...

Ryan at Hardcore Archery (sponsor) came up with a new longbow graphic.  I asked if he could switch the quiver to the right side and that turned out difficult given the angle, but I think this came out well.  I also had him remove the string silencers on his original (some of you may appreciate this.)  This was the result, I figuered y'all may be interested and asked if I could post it here.  Personally, I love the hat and the simplicity of the whole thing.

If you like it, let Ryan know.  And if you want one (decal), I'm sure he'll set you up quickly.  I have a couple on the way.
