Rossco - Good comments. I'm curious why the dished grip would give you more of a closer 'point on'. I agree the straight grip does increase the 'gap'  and am always interested in closing my gap within hunting ranges, so would like to understand how the dished grip could help me in that...

Good question Longbowwally. Seems like the gap isn't changing much unless you change your anchor, or shoot a heavier bow.

Shooting a much heavier arrow will Shrink it up too, a lot as you get out past 18 or so yds.

Just had to share this addition to my Hill style family of bows.
Done some trading and got this Jerry Hill Grand Slam, circa.1984. 70" 70 lbs @ 28.
First thing i did was set the B.H @ 6 1/4" inches, and checked the nock, grabbed a shaft and headed for the bag. I stepped back bout 15 yrds. and let her fly. Shot S.E of my dime size spot about 1 1/2 inches, first shot.
Jerry Hills, you either love'm or hate'm, but from my past J.Hill experience, and now having this one, IMO, they shoot second to none.
That may be in part to having shot Hill styles for quite some time now, and with age ive gained more knowledge and understanding of the Hill style, which in turn evolves into an appreciation for the style.
None the less, she is a great shooter!   [/IMG]

I think the J. Hills are sometimes under rated, ive found that if braced correctly, shooting a heavy shaft, it turns a lion into a kitten.
Shooting a Douglas Fur shaft, with a 160 grain HH broadhead , this thing hits like a hammer and is as pleasant to shoot as any other Hill style i own.
Enjoy your new to you Wildcat Brian, no doubt your gonna like it!

I'm not sure that the dished grip is the cause of my point on being closer - it's just a theory. I can't think of anything different with this bow other than that which might cause this.

From a GPP perspective my arrows for the Granpa are actually lighter than anything else I shoot so I'm stumped. If anything you'd expect a larger gap.....

New bow alert.  John Schulz "Trophy Hunter" to land in NJ on Thursday.  64", 46@28.  This is a rather interesting one.  Story and pics once it arrives.  I'm thrilled about this one.

Sorry Kevin, but you'll have to be patient.

Yeah, Nick that's the one.  Glad that envelope made it.  Good luck.

That photograph is almost as lightweight as the bow.

Only a set of excellent photographs of a beautiful bow will save you now!

I agree, I guess if I want to look at a whole Schulz, I will have to go look in my bedroom. It is time to go to bed anyway. Good night little Schulz, good night bigger Schulz, good night prettiest Schulz.

I'm up! Not really, I wish there was a 52@26" left hander in the group, although I am having fun being a right hander again. Bows like Schulz longbows are a little tough to use. They are not replaceable, so I tend to use the bows that are sort of copies of them more, especially when conditions are rough.

mikebiz

Oh I'm going to use mine, but I'll do my best to be gentle.  There are very few bows I would purchase to just hang on the rack.  Obviously a genuine Howard bow would "probably" be one of them.

As far as I know this Schulz I purchased never saw any field time.  Only the range and the current owner only shot it indoors.

And I know about irreplaceable.  You may recall last week I was ranting about the USPS damaging a bow I mailed to a fellow TradGanger.  It was built by a retired bowyer, so if it was completely busted, bye-bye bow.  Fortunately, we think it can be fixed rather easily.  Dodged a bullet, or should I say arrow, on that one.    :archer2:

When I mail a bow to someone, I put it in a padded heavy weight PVC tube with padded heavy caps.  I imagine if a truck drove over it they could still damage the bow inside. PS, don't tell them that, I can just about see that happening with some of the delivery boys around here.
