I always remove that piece of wedge leather from the side of the shelf.. I get inconsistent and erratic arrow flight when it's there.  I only knew it because everything was good to go once removed. I think it depends on how the arrow comes off the bow, or how its tuned, with each individual shooter. I first experienced it with the miller split boo bow. Arrow flight is perfect now.  I would actually prefer to have it on the bow for a little arrow support on the shelf, but it doesn't work for me.

Nate Steen .

If arrow flight is a problem with the raised shelf wedge (making a trough)  then just trim it flat...there's no need to remove it.  Keep it as a locator

I always wondered why some of them had that piece of leather sticking up. I might have to give that a try sometime. I notice on some bows, people have turned the leather grip under, forming kind of a ridge that is used as a locator. I didn't know that the wedge works for that as well. I thought it was just to keep the arrow on the narrow shelf most of these Hill bows have.

Guys !!!
Check out the Centaur DVD "Wild Traditions "
heaps of footage of a Hill bow taking game ... in fact I reckon its Jason Ekin ... grouse , moose .............

Great stuff with plenty of great action with our favourite bow !!!

R.V.T.B.

I have watched it twice and agree 100%.  The footage of the elk shot from a tree stand at about 5 yards is worth the cost of the d.v.d. alone!  I kind of enjoyed watching the turkey hunting section where the guy shot all of the arrows out of his quiver without touching a bird as well.

The leather wedge got added to the shelf because on Howard Hills bows there was a minimum arrow shelf, It was an extension of the the very small shelf so the arrow would stay on it and get on it easier.

Thanks for the tip on the video Ben!!  I'm going to try and get a copy  :)

I'm back in the HH game baby!!!!!  :)   :)  LOL!!!!!
Whippeeeeee!!!!!
Tickled pink!!!!
I just got through stringing up and shooting my "new to me" HH Wesley that I bought off of Ron N. on the TG Classifieds.  With a little practice, I should get used to shooting Hill again. With that said, I was pleased (for me anyway) with my 2nd 20 yd group at a piece of foam left from a shot to pieces deer target.  Two different spine, length, and arrow weights; but "my" Wesley liked them just fine.  Felt good baby!!!!
 :)   :)
Have a nice day!

Hey Ben!!   :)    Been doing great!!!  Mainly chasing our two young boys around from school and their activities   :)   LOL!!!

I hope that life is treating you great in OZ!!!   :)

Thanks for the compliments!!!

She's (the Wesley   :)   ) 64"amo, 45@28".  I'm all of 5'10" and the lack of length doesn't bother me with this draw weight at all.  Good eye Ben!!  She does have the carmelized boo, and man that stuff is pretty!!!  She also came with ivory tips and a sewn moosehide riser grip cover.  The riser is highly figured bocote.  Ron said in his add that he only had her a week.  She looks like she came straight from the Ekins   :)   I've been playing with several great bows (which many will be going up for sale soon   :)   ) and now returning to a HH in a weight that I can shoot comfortably just cinches it for me!!!  I need to be shooting HH longbows the majority of the time.  For whatever reason, they just "fit" me   :)    Now I've got to go find me a cool red plad hunting jacket LOL!!!
Have a nice day!

Hey Marlon give us the details on that lefty Hill.  Quite a bit of backset on that one.  I'll bet it throws an arrow with some authority.  Nice looking bow.
"...and last of all I leave to you the thrill of life and the joy of youth that throbs a moment in a well bent bow, then leaps forth in the flight of an arrow." - Saxton Pope

Marlon's bow almost looks like a Jerry Hill, a nice quick taper, the arrow rest is on the wrong side, so he could just as well send it to me.
