8o's....no, no, no,...'70s, dude!

Mom had a nice "earth tone" color shag, in the 70s, living room! Would work real good!  :bigsmyl:

dragonheart

It came in a camo bowcase.

Nate, you could go to town on some bows with that sander I have!

Okay Chris here is a photo.  I will post some more in a bit.  HH straight profile, bamboo limbs, black glass, dished just a bit.  Ebony handle.  It is cool looking to me the way the riser blends into the black glass hard to tell the riser from the glass.  It is nasty raining here all day.

Yep so much rain the creek was to the bottom of my bridge to the house.  My wesley is ebony with black glass and its hard to tell where one starts and one begins.

HH Big Five, 66", 62# @ 26" (my D/L).  I put an 18 strand b-50 (need a string for her) set the BH at 6 1/8".  Shot a cedar with 225 tuffhead on it that is 26 7/8" BOP.       Well I nailed the leaf I was looking at under the streetlight across the street.  Lots of mud on the tuffhead.  BTW:  the Tuffheads you can lay them down on-top of a Schulz Hunter Head and they are the same deminsions.

Who bought the 70" 47# Tembo with white glass off the HH stock bow page?? Somebody needs to fess up with some pics.

dragonheart

I, of course, found another bow that I really want!  yeah I got a double dose of this hill bug thing.  The fella that made it has the same last name as me.       ;)      It also lacks some of the "modern materials" but he wrote in a book that he "progressed by going back in time to a design long since gone...".  This other bow I am looking at is cool.

You folks seem to like your Hills eh?   :knothead:

68" Tembo
black glass back
white glass belly
2 lams of bamboo
one over the riser and one up the fades

ser# 68130
Marked 61# @ 28" pulls 66# at 28" on my scale

Were 2 lam Hills common at anytime in thier history?

David Mitchell

Based on that serial number, I believe that was one built by John Schulz when he was the bowyer for HHA.  I have a buddy who just picked one up that John made in 1973--a Tembo and it has four lams...go figure.  It has brown glass on the back and white on the belly--a really gorgeous longbow and in like new condition. It also has much more narrow limbs than my Hill/Schulz Tembo from about the same time period.

Thank you David.
This bow is also in great shape. Slender limbs,  tiny tips. Width at the nocks is about 3/8"
The bow came with a dozen HH arrows with HH broadheads.

Rik

Remember that Wesley Special that came back to me from British Columbia? The one with the well-worn, blood-stained leather?

Well, this arrived in the mail today. It is roughly 11 inches long and five inches wide at the widest point. Good old fashioned Idaho beaver tail leather.

Looks like I will have a fun project for the weekend.

Okay, finishing up my season.  Who is all going to Kalamazoo?  I will be there hopefully with my two nephew's I got into tradtional.

SAM E. STEPHENS

Ok gents I got my first HH it is a older "Big Five"
60# @30" and 70" , bow looks to be in good shape few dings here and there. Number on it is BK70154 , it also has no tip overlays. Now the bow came with a fastflight string with padded loops ( is it safe to shoot this string ) also what spine wood arrow would yall say for it.I draw a full 30" and hold at full draw for a bit before I loose , I also shoot a glove. Thanks for any info...........

Sam,

Have you ever used Stu's arrow calculator?  The center shot measurement is important to get right.  My new Hill is about 1/4" outside of center shot counting the leather.  The tool has always got me close to the right spine.

Sam, the "K" in the serial number shows that bow was built by the Kramers when they were the bowyers for Hill Archery--Lee and Ted. I myself would be a bit leery of fastflight on an older bow--especially one with no tip overlays.  Others will disagree, but my view is for the small improvement in performance (really only about 4-5 fps maybe) why risk damage to a fine older bow?  Good luck with her....and enjoy.
