Swampthing....sounds like a love affair with your new bow....sounds like you'll be a one-bow man for quite a while.  ;)    Also, how are you liking your bateman glove?  99.9% of the time, I use an American Leathers Hill style stiff glove...no they don't sell them anymore...just like Hill and Schulz used..I like that stiff feel. However, I came up with the Crossover Bigshot for those cold days when the fingers don't release like normal and I wanted a slightly softer glove.  I'm not good with a soft glove, because I don't feel my fingers against my face at anchor the same.  The stiff glove prevents my fingers from wrapping too far around the string, and the fingers dig into my face better, which I can feel as a more positive anchor.

I like the Bateman, it does exactly what you describe. When I put 62# of tension on it it stays relatively straight, no wrapping around at all.

swampthing

You can see in the top pic,a slight curvature in the sticking on top. That is "built in" it exhibits very little flex, if any at full draw, yur fingers will be pointing at your anchor point, not angled behind it.
In the bottom pic you can see the black inserts between the suede inner an cordovan outer layers, not plastic, more like a flexible poly resin.

Overspined

Where do you get a Batemman glove?  I like the big shot but it grooves and a stiffer insert intrigues me.

That is what you will see Byron Ferguson use as well. It's not only about finger protection for 72#. My shots more or less, "go off,"
like a hair trigger, kinda sorta like.

I have that same bateman glove, it's a good glove. What I like about it is it fit's around my fingers real snug.

Same here...I have the Big Shot Elk and it was dandy for a few months.  It is very comfortable and nicely broken in but allows me to feel (hook) too much of the string.

Planning on getting the American Leathers "Crossover" which should be just about perfect. I think Nate originally designed it.  Ray and Spanky highly recommended it.

In the interim I am using a Howard Hill glove that looks like that Bateman...have had that one for over ten years now.  Never took the time to break it in 'till now tho.

I've been using the Bateman tab for a number of years now. I might have to give their glove a try. I use to use a Hill glove when I was shooting heavy weight bows. There was always the problem of the finger stalls coming off when I shot. The way to alleviate the problem was to rub string wax inside the cups, the resin in the wax helped keep the glove on the fingers.

I have been using a Bateman tab for a few years now but I know I could use a little more protection for one finger(pointing finger) as I still have a callous build up after weeks of it getting sore. Then at some point the callous will tear off leaving the finger sore again and back at the beginning of the cycle.

I found an old HH glove and I've been trying it but think that I might be able to do better.

I would love to find one that works and now it's a question of what do I try 1st... the Bateman or the "Crossover".

Mudd,

I have shot and owned all three.  The bateman is very stiff.  Earl builds a great product.  The crossover is also stiff with inserts.  I shoot the regular buffalo big shot.  It just depends on what feel you want.  John Turner at American leathers recommends the buffalo hide if you live in an area with high humidity.  I like to feel the string some so the regular big shot works for me.  The other thing I like about the big shot is wear the cordavan is "wrapped back" gives you a consitent stop to put your fingers to.  You have a spot or "depth gauge" that  you can set you fingers in the same depth everytime you shoot.

I used the back of the stall as a reference on my depth, so each shot is the same.  If you read Horace Ford's infomation he also had a stop on his stalls as a reference.  Just have to decide how stiff you want the glove to be.  Big shot is getting better and better the more I shoot it.

This is link to Horace Fords book about archery.  It is "ol english" text so it can be just bit challenging to read.  He was one of the best target longbowman that lived.  Interesting information.  He recommended "straight" or parallel arrows.

From his text on archery

"...a guard or stop is placed upon each stall about half an inch from the top, by which the line of the fingers and position of the string is so regulated as to render the loose always uniform."

Surely that's not Cordovan that I am looking at in the picture?

How to make a stop?

Everything about gloves is new to me.

The old HH glove I mentioned has a groove impressed in the leather which I don't really care for.

My Bateman tabs remain smooth and have yet to get creases. I was hoping that a glove would be the same but I'll live with it if I can keep my finger from hurting.

When james schulz designed the big shot he told me that the reason for the design was this...nylon overlays that remain slick over time no matter what kind of weather,(leather in rain/snow gets sticky/grippy)...and there is neoprene inserts under the nylon.  The neoprene is soft and has 'bounce back spring'  so while it might look as if you are getting grooves in the stalls from shooting, the stall overlays of nylon give a very smooth release.  If you like to feel the string i think the bigshot is the best glove out there.

I had the same problem with the Hill glove, you won't have that problem with the Bateman, fits snug..

My big shot glove and my Shelton came on the same day. Every day I like both a little better. The longer I have it, the more the bit shot conforms to my fingers. I don't mean it bends or takes a crease, it just kind of grips my fingers. It is fairly stiff and string feel is minimal. I wasn't sure I liked that at first, but the release off of the cordura nylon is incredibly slick. I think dragonheart meant cordura rather than cordovan. I find myself with the string lying just at the end of the neoprene insert (about on my 1st knuckle). I keep watching the glove for grooving, but so far I find none. Since my finger tips are against the single layer of nylon at the end, it is easy to feel my anchor. I am finding both my anchor and my release have become more consistent with this glove, which in turn helps me shoot better. I have way fewer fliers, and the ones I do have are 3-4 inches outside the group instead of a foot!

The Bateman looks like a great glove as well. I debated before I chose the Big Shot, but so many here recommend the big shot, I decided to give it a try. If it wears out before I do, I may try a Bateman next time (not likely).

Oh, and I got the elk version. I hadn't heard about the humidity problem when I ordered, but I treated the glove with snow seal, so humidity should be less of an issue.

The black portion on the glove is Nylon.  I meant to say codura, not cordavan.  I dont have a sense of grooving with the big shot, due to the material and design of the glove.
