no sir, no toes were stepped on!

i like print media a LOT, too.   :)

in my conversations with rik, the work that went into every ia mag issue was enormous - too much, so, in the long run.

BudB, nice to see that bow out hunting!  That is what I wanted for her.

I agree with David Bud in that your bow seems to like where you've taken it.

The grip of the Hill style bow varied with Howard's personal bows through the years, and I was curious as to what everyone thinks about the width of the grip.  Is there only a  personal preference to the shape and width of the grip's belly, or has anyone heard a more technical reason some are so sharp and skinny, and others kind of oval?  I saw the LaCalair Hill style bow and man, that is one thin grip. I had an older Hill that was so sharp on the belly it hurt to shoot. I think in lighter weights it would be fine.  I really like the teardrop shape grip, it seems to help put pressure in the right area and reduce torque, but I don't know how you determine the apex width of the belly.

MikeNova

Speaking of grips I have seen him in several pictures shooting a forward grip. Did he ever make any comments in print about them? Anyone know around what years he started shooting them and if he hunted with them often?

@overspined

I spent some time talking with Bob Burton who has measured many grips of bows that were made by Howard. Bob told me that they all were a little different in width starting from 1" and thinner.

I also had this conversation with John Lee, he gave me the measurements of 2 1/8 deep and 1" width for a Hill grip.

I just recently sent my bow back to Craig because it was too thick on the sides and had him duplicate a grip that Howard made, it's 1" wide X 2" deep. It's perfect for me.

Something that I noticed and confirmed after speaking with Craig is that the bows built today are a little wider in the grip than Hills original bows. That is because most people like the fuller grip, just like some people like the locator grip.

Years ago, I had a Jerry Hill bow and the grip was very narrow, let's remember Jerry has Howard's original bows to copy from. The bow always shot where I was looking, but like most people I thought the grip was too thin because Howard Hill Archery bows were thicker and John Schultz bows were thicker too. After, I bought a Hill bow with a thicker grip, I found that I would torque the bow and my arrows would fly right or left. With a narrow grip, my bow stays pointed in the direction that I want it to, and it doesn't torque.

After shooting several Hills over the years I have always wanted to have one of my own.  Well after reading virtually every page of this thread over the past year it finally got to me.  I did some trading and this beauty showed up today.
A big thanks to Mr. Steve Clandanin for a flawless transaction.  I am thoroughly pleased.
I did not get alot of time with it today due to holiday weekend family things but I will be able to spend some quality time with it on Sunday.
66" Cheetah 56@28.  The cores are Yew which matched with the Juniper and Cocobolo riser make nice combo.
Anyway here are a couple of pics.  Can't wait to get here out in the tall weeds.

MUDD, Hope this keeps you busy.    ;)   This was just a quick search. I counted 5 on the first 2 pages. They were all on page 1 when I initially posted.

I know some are SPF now, but that means they are technically still available if the buyer backs out.     :p

Now, I wouldn't call you blind, that would mean you would have a hard time stitching up the MUDD HILL hats.     :archer2:

Hey guys,
What woods were used in the Wild Boar?

LOL,

Mudd, you are one of the good ones. I was just poking a little good natured humor at all the Hill Hype.    :smileystooges:   !  Although most people wouldn't understand my humor, its better left that way as therefore the people that dont read into it or understand it, do not get offended by it.

Just like my joke back on Page 200 something. After a question about "which Hill Bow" I commented  "They are all the same"   :readit:      :biglaugh:
