Sorry for the delay.  I was so wound up I barely slept.  So a quick back story.  I haven't hunted as many times this year as I normally do but I have seen deer every hunt and had a few close encounters.  Talking with a buddy that hunts nearby I learned of the "unicorn buck".  He sent me a couple pics.  Look at the base of his left main beam and you'll see another spike growing straight up.

My last hunt was last Sunday night and I saw a big heavy horned buck cruise by about 100 yards away.  I had seen this same buck a couple weeks earlier cruise by at about 60 yards on a different property about 1km away.  So my plan all week was to race out of work Friday at 3:30 grab an old stand and move it to the area I had seen the buck on Sunday.  Well, I got delayed leaving work and with no time to move the stand I grabbed my climber and went to the spot.  There wasn't one tree small enough or close enough to the trail I wanted to hunt.  Now it's got to be 4:30 and I've made all kinds of noise and I feel like I just wasted an evening.  I dropped the stand and hunkered in behind a large deadfall.

I'm surrounded by 2 large limbs and the trail I'm hunting is over my left shoulder with a perfect wind.  The sun had set and we're 15 mins into "prime time" when I hear walking.  I'm facing the wrong way and don't dare move.  I hear the walking coming up the trail from behind me and stop.  That's when I hear him raking his horns and making a scrape.  I've turned my head just enough to see glimpses of a buck out of the corner of my eye.  I don't know how big but I've seen horn and I already know I'm going to shoot if the opportunity is given.  The buck starts walking again.  He's close!  He's parallel to me around 7 yards and I'm frozen like a statue.  As soon as he gets past me I draw, swing around the tree limbs see front leg and the arrow is gone.  The buck does a mule kick and takes off.  Things went quiet quickly.  I didn't see the arrow impact but I heard it.  I sat down behind the deadfall and text my wife and youngest son.  My son and dog are at the farm in 30 mins.  I tell them to wait while I check for my arrow and blood.  I'm planning to slip out and come back in the morning.  I didn't hear him crash and didn't want to push him.  Talk about a blood trail!  No need to wait, I call them to come and track with me.  My arrow was 10 yards down the trail and was soaked!  We walked right to him only another 50 yards away!!!

Turns out it was the unicorn buck.  He broke his unicorn, right brow tine and tip off right crab claw. I can't describe how blessed I feel.

Shot was about 10 yards using my 55 lb Cari-bow Slynx, Beman Centershots tipped with Grizzly single bevel.
